Help urgently needed here please:
This laptop owned by our carer’s daughter would not access the internet
I think it has not completely updated SP2 as no updates show in AddRemove control panel
Norton Internet Security 2006 was out of date and has been uninstalled
I found it was severely infected and I have run all the recommended clean programs :

Adaware 2007 – Virtumonde x 10; Win32 SurfNav x 6; Win32.Trojan.Agent x 10; Win32.Trojandownloader.Zlob x 10 etc . Total 487 threats treated.

Spybot found 413 problems all fixed except the following it would not fix
MicrosoftWindowsSecurityCenter AntiVirus Override
MicrosoftWindowsSecurityCenter Firewall Override
MicrosoftWindowsSecurityCenter SP2Update
MicrosoftWindowsSecurityCenter _disabled
Win32.BHO.df

I then copied and ran AVG free which treated a further 46 threats
I can now connect to the internet (AVG updated itself) but IE7 is not controllable so for example Microsoft update is not accessible and the browser hangs at whatever website is chosen.
Despite best efforts Windows Firewall settings remain greyed out. Therefore all treatment is by downloading on another machine and copying utilities over by flashdrive.

This is the HJT file

Hi Richie
2 Feb
Problems currently:
Problem A: On boot RUNDLL message Error loading C:\WINDOWS\system32\wywxursl.dll
The specified module could not be found.
Problem B: Cannot enable Windows firewall. On the Exceptions Tab the note advises that network administrator is using Group Policy to control these settings but I cannot find the way to activate the firewall so am unwilling to try going on the internet even through my network router. Netgear DG632) I have checked services and believe I have set them correctly. I found one process K9q1t9 that was Automatic and have disabled it. I think it is a nasty.
Problem C: SpyBot is reporting one problem it cannot cure which is Win32.BHO.df
Adaware is running clean
AVG is running clean
System Restore is currently turned OFF.

HJT Log follows:

Hi

If you have previously downloaded ComboFix,please delete that version now.
Warning
You should NOT use Combofix unless you have been instructed to do so by a Malware Removal Expert.
It is intended by its creator to be used under the guidance and supervision of an expert,NOT for private use.
Using this tool incorrectly could render your system/pc inoperable.

Now download Combofix by sUBs and save to your desktop.
Alternative Combofix download link HERE.
Note
It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop

Close any open browsers.
Double click on combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When it's finished it will produce a log.
Post the entire contents of C:\ComboFix.txt into your next reply.
Note
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running.
That may cause the program to freeze/hang.

Do NOT post the ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt unless I ask.
Note
In case your Antivirus or any other realtime scanner is displaying an alert after you downloaded Combofix or while you use Combofix, please disable your scanner and redownload Combofix again.
Some scanners may see some combofix related components as suspicious and block or delete them while there's nothing wrong with them.

Also post a new Hijackthis log please.

Copy and paste ALL the following text in the code box below into Notepad.

This will start ComboFix again.
After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply along with a new HijackThis log.

Ritchie - Done that
We now seem to have control over the Windows firewall switch so progress is apparent. I am still doing the work transferring files via flash drive and keeping the patient disconnected from the internet. Let me know at any point if I should change this.

Here are the two new logs as requested:

Ritchie - Done to the letter and 3 logs follow. I am not totally sure how the Kaspersky scan was configured for Archives Mail Bases etc as I did not notice the options but it reports these as true so I thinkthey must have been default settings. Machine now appears to be behaving OK on internet. SpyBot scan now runs clean. Windows firewall functioning. More to do though! BTW I notice there are items marked Norton quarantine. Maybe you could advise on removing all traces of Norton which I uninstalled earlier though I think their website offers a tool

OTMoveIt2 v1.0.17 log created on 02042008_114824

I completed the other steps and post below the final HJT log which I presume is clean and I trust the only thing remaining is to DONATE! Which I willshortly.

I wonder if you would care to comment on the fact that this machine came to me after my carer had paid £50 for a health check which obviously did not resolve anything. I shall be assisting her to get this money back and any expert opinion from you might assist, though it may be not your policy. If so I understand. Personally I feel she was swindled.

This is the log now:

I wonder if you would care to comment on the fact that this machine came to me after my carer had paid £50 for a health check which obviously did not resolve anything. I shall be assisting her to get this money back and any expert opinion from you might assist, though it may be not your policy. If so I understand. Personally I feel she was swindled.

I agree entirely she was swindled, this pc was badly infected and i'll certainly back you up on that.

Your new log is clean

Thanks for all your assistance - she got her money back and I have donated as promised.
