I had a nice virus not so long ago attacking my HD, but that is gone... I think. There is a reason I do not run virus programs constantly, but I thought that I would give that a try once again, and that is acting up already as it does what virus progs are best for doing... log down a computer and miss the NEW virus anyhow. Windows is bugging me with the "genuine notification" as I deleted a file that I should not have so now I got to get rid of that. Before i start just ripping out things left and right i thought id post log. Only other thing I can think of bit out of ordinary is im losing my wireless signal without any reconnect unless i restart more than usual. I am still talking only maybe 2 times the past 4 days though ater long internet sessions so thats it.

NOT trying to bump this but there is not an edit button? I fixed my wireless issues (file conflict) with a hidden file conflict that was going on so now the connection is secure and good and long lasting. As for norton starting at startup all they like to do is tell me that they cannot load this or that... cannot scan emails etc etc. That is because I believe I got my own email program up for the multiple emails and its not configured. Not sure, do not like to run 24/7 virus progs. Bill Gates still believes im running non genuine software even though after i mistakingly took out that file and did verify all the information and keys back to microsoft... microsoft must just have that site up as a false sense of security to have you thinking you can verifty your information. this post got an edit...

Haven't Had A Reply In Five Days?

i was told to post that "Havent't had a reply in five days"... plus there is an update on my computer happenings... the computer is saying there are critical errors and the exclamation point telling me to run windows explorer things and this and that. Also, norton has detected just recently a lot of virus's saying "downloader" some of them it is fixing while others it cannot fix????????

JUST REALIZED I WAS TO POST IN THAT FORUM NOT HERE... once again apologize for the unintentional bump! things have changed drastically at this site though from as little as a few months ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi,

sorry for the delay!! But we are all volunteers with another life too.

* Download Dr.Web CureIt to the desktop:
ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/drweb-cureit.exe
  • Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and Allow to run the express scan
  • This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
  • Once the short scan has finished, mark the drives that you want to scan.
  • Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
  • Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
  • Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
  • When the scan has finished, in the menu, click file and choose save report list
  • Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
  • Close Dr.Web Cureit.
  • Reboot your computer!! Because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
  • After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web you saved previously in your next reply and a new HijackThis log.

Hi,

thanks for the logs.

Please open HijackThis, click do a scan only and place a check next to the following entrie:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {67FCF2F9-9659-4FF5-B8A2-E0CCDBEA2D97} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\atkctr.dll

Close all other windows and browsers, except HijackThis, and click Fix Checked. Close HijackThis.

Please delete these file using Windows Explorer(if present):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\atkctr.dll <-- file

It is also important to keep your Java updated as there is the possibility that some malware uses out of date Java installs to infect pc's. Test if your version is the latest here.

Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 update 4 .
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 update 4, The Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language and save it to your desktop (13.9 MB).
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially any web browsers.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u4-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.
Reboot and post a new HijackThis log. Let me know how things are running.

I aplogize for you having to post that last one. I was caught up in tossing norton where it belongs (garbage), and fixing the same exact thing you just told me to fix and restarting the computer so I didnt get to grab my post and edit it before you helped. My fault, anyhow... I think I got it fixed or running decent (for now). I updated to java 6-3 though not 6-4. Thanks a lot... if anything else looks horrible or sick it wont surprise me, but I think everything looks decent as of now. Thanks for the time.

Disable and Enable System Restore. - You should disable and enable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point.

You can find instructions on how to enable and re-enable system restore here:
Windows XP System Restore Guide.

Below I have included a number of recommendations for how to protect your computer in order to prevent future malware infections. Please take these recommendations seriously; these few simple steps can stave off the vast majority of spyware problems. As happy as we at BC are to help you, for your sake we would rather not have repeat customers. :thumbsup:

1) In order to protect yourself against spyware, you should consider installing and running the following free programs:

Ad-Aware SE
A tutorial on using Ad-Aware to remove spyware from your computer may be found here.

SpywareBlaster
A tutorial on using SpywareBlaster to prevent spyware from ever installing on your computer may be found here.

SpywareGuard
A tutorial on using SpywareGuard for realtime protection against spyware and hijackers may be found here.

AVG-AntiSpyware
Install it,update it to the latest definitions, and perform a full system scan.

Make sure to keep these programs up-to-date and to run them regularly, as this can prevent a great deal of spyware hassle.

3) Please consider using an alternate browser. Mozilla's Firefox browser is fantastic; it is much more secure than Internet Explorer, immune to almost all known browser hijackers, and also has the best built-in popup blocker (as an added benefit!) that I have ever seen. If you are interested, Firefox may be downloaded from here:

4) Also make sure to run your antivirus software regularly, and to keep it up-to-date.
