Hi Richie,

Thanks for your response and attempt(s) to help me. I did follow the info in the link you've sent although I was unable to download any of the programs to scan for malware-I'm unsure why. I also could not download the McAfee stinger program. Prior to the current situation, I had McAfee for my security. However, lately when we logged we had a pop-up saying we're not protected. When I try to get in to McAfee, I can't.

I initially contacted 'BleepingComputer..' because I was trying to purchase from the Gap online and I kept getting a message thaat my cookies were disabled and they need to be enabled. I followed all instr's to enable, cleaned up my cookies, and still no luck. I then deleted some programs not being used and downloaded Startup CPL and I no longer received the cookie message and was able to purchase from the Gap.

Additionally, I was able to uninstall 'SpamBlockerutility.com' after e-mailing the company. So, those pop-ups have ceased.

Now, I'm not sure how many programs I should have/keep (ie. ad-aware, spybot, sygate, etc.), and what to do about McAfee??

I hope I have given you a sensible description. I'm sure it is very busy at your end. No rush as any help will be greatly appreciated. Following should be my Hijack log.

Thanks,
Suzan

Your version of Sun Java is out of date.
Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.
Please follow these steps to remove older versions of Sun Java, and then update.
1. Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE)
2. Scroll down to where it says 'Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 update 4'.
3. Click the "Download" button to the right.
4. Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
5. The page will refresh.
6. Click on the link to download 'Windows Offline Installation jre-6u4-windows-i586-p.exe' [15.12 MB] and save to your desktop.
7. Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
8. Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
9. Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
10. Click the Change/Remove button.
11. Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java version.
12. Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
13. Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u4-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.

If you have previously downloaded ComboFix,please delete that version now.
Warning
You should NOT use Combofix unless you have been instructed to do so by a Malware Removal Expert.
It is intended by its creator to be used under the guidance and supervision of an expert,NOT for private use.
Using this tool incorrectly could render your system/pc inoperable.

Now download Combofix by sUBs and save to your desktop.
Alternative Combofix download link HERE.
Note
It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop

Close any open browsers.
Double click on combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When it's finished it will produce a log.
Post the entire contents of C:\ComboFix.txt into your next reply.
Note
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running.
That may cause the program to freeze/hang.

Do NOT post the ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt unless I ask.
Note
In case your Antivirus or any other realtime scanner is displaying an alert after you downloaded Combofix or while you use Combofix, please disable your scanner and redownload Combofix again.
Some scanners may see some combofix related components as suspicious and block or delete them while there's nothing wrong with them.

Also post a new Hijackthis log please.

Hi Richie,

I'm sorry but I'm not quite sure what the 'clipboard' in the 'OTMoveIt' section refers to. Following is what I've copied. Let me know if I've done this correctly and should therefore continue to downloading ATF Cleaner.

FYI-I now need to re-boot the computer everytime I log on as it's the only way for me to get connected to the internet.

C:\Documents and Settings\Suzan B. Moses\Application Data\PerfomanceOptimizerPre_Installer[1].exe moved successfully.
C:\Documents and Settings\Suzan B. Moses\Application Data\PerformanceoptimizerFreeSetup[1].exe moved successfully.

OTMoveIt2 v1.0.17 log created on 02062008_141940

Thanks,
Suzan

Your log is clean  ,please do the following:

Click on Start/Run,copy and paste ComboFix /u into the 'Open:' space, then press Ok.
This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, reset your clock settings, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and resets System Restore again.

Please double-click OTMoveIt.exe again to run it.
Click on the 'Cleanup' button Posted Image
When you do this a text file named cleanup.txt will be downloaded from the internet.
If you get a warning from your firewall or other security programs regarding OTMoveIt attempting to contact the internet you should allow it to do so.
When the 'Confirm' box appears click 'Yes'.
Restart your pc when prompted.

You should take the time to read and follow the information found in the links below,to help you prevent any possible future infections and stay safe and secure while online:

Hi Richie,

Sorry I couldn't get to this any faster. I am unable to get past your first instruction. Each time I try it I come up with 'cannot find the file'. I tried a # of times. I do have 5 files under 'search', can't copy/paste any of those. Where else should I look? I typed in the 'open' space exactly as you've written as I didn't know where else to copy it from. Seems so simple but....

Thanks,
Suzan

Hi Richie,

I've followed your instructions to the end and I will follow-up with the tutorial and other websites you have listed for me. I do have 2 ?'s: 1) When I log on I still have a box in the lower right corner from McAfee reporting that 'your computer is not fully protected'. When I click on the box to see what's wrong, the box comes up blank. I have also tried to open McAfee from the desktop and have been able to do so but can't figure out how to change what's off to on. 2) Do I keep all the spyware/malware programs I've installed via 'bleepingcomputer.com'? (I realize this one may be answered in the tutorial)

Thank you so very much.

Suzan

If you have the McAfee installation disk, try uninstalling/reinstalling the program.
