This might not be a Vista question but I just got a new laptop and my old one had a feature that I could turn off the monitor by hitting CTRL+M (or something like that) without having to wait for the power setting to automatically turn it off after a desiganted period of time.

I have searched and searched the laptops user manual and online help for the shortcut/hotkey function and can't find it anywhere. it's a compaq presario.

Any ideas?

On most laptops there's a Fn key. And, in the same color (as the lettering on the Fn key) are pictograms on some of the other keys. Look for one that looks like a monitor or may say LCD. Try pressing them (and maybe even the one's to either side) to see what they do.
