I am trying to fix my friends pc, the problem is that it's trying to send emails to random email address's that we have never heard of and i had to disable Norton Email Scanner because it was sending 100 every few seconds. I have tried removing some possible threats with Spybot S&D but the problem isn't fix, google doesn't help either.

Here is the log

Hi,

Go to this page.
Enter the url of this thread in the first field.
Where it says, browse to the file that you want to submit, click the browse button next to it and browse to next file:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\iphttphl4.dll

Select it and click ok:
Then click the Send File button below.

Then, * Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

* Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

* Reboot into Safe Mode`: ( without networking support !)
°To get into the Windows Safe Mode, restart your computer and, just before Windows starts to load, tap the F8 key a few times.
Choose Safe Mode from the menu that will appear and press Enter.
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
  • Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log

Thanks for the file...

It's certainly a bad one, but mainly generic detections.

I see you are a HJT Trainee, so I guess you shouldn't have any problems with my instructions

So, while you are in safe mode for SDFix, delete the C:\WINDOWS\system32\iphttphl4.dll file as well.

Hmm I'm having a few problems booting into Safe Mode on my friends PC, He is using a Wireless Keyboard and doesn't get enabled until you log on to the PC, Is there anyway i can use a command inside the PC to make it auto reboot into Safe Mode?

Can you use another keyboard?
Because I am not sure a wireless keyboard would work in Windows Safe mode. There's another way to get into safe mode:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/how-to-start-windows-in-safe-mode/
But I don't really recommend this method in your case, unless you are sure that your keyboard works in safe mode. This because, if you use the instructions with msconfig, and if your keyboard doesn't work in safe mode, then you cannot change it back again to boot into normal mode. So you'll be stuck in safe mode where you can't do anything.
That's why I suggest another keyboard (if present).
If not, then run SDFix from normal mode.

Hi,

I guess you overlooked my other post where I asked to delete the C:\WINDOWS\system32\iphttphl4.dll file while in safe mode

Anyway, we'll have to run another tool as well (In Windows normal mode), because I guess more files are still present that need to get deleted. I already see a few in the SDFix log, but there will be more..

So do next please..

* Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

This includes installing the Windows XP Recovery Console in case you have not installed it yet.

Post the log from ComboFix when you've accomplished that, along with a new HijackThis log.

I deleted that file above and completed the Combofix program along with the Windows XP Recovery Console program

Hi,

Let's deal with the rest now...

* Open notepad - don't use any other texteditor than notepad or the script will fail.
Copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into notepad:

File::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\sysdamp.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\iphttphl4.dll
C:\ggvqo.exe
C:\WINDOWS\wthsvc.exe

Driver::
FFI

Registry::
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\currentcontrolset\services\sharedaccess\parameters\firewallpolicy\standardprofile\authorizedapplications\list]
"C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\svchost.exe"=-
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\~\Browser Helper Objects\{FC7FF7DC-C5F6-D3CA-D1F2-CD9E1FC437EB}]

Save this as txtfile CFScript

Then drag the CFScript into ComboFix.exe as you see in the screenshot below.

Posted Image

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThislog.

That's strange, because from what I see, it did perform its task though.

Can you rerun Combofix again? Because I need to see a full log - this to make sure files are deleted.

Hello again, We were having some problems with the computer, at the end where it says Now Rebooting it doesn't reboot so we had to turn off by the switch, now it doesn't come up to the User Log-in screen and we can't choose Last Known Configuration because of the keyboard, I will be round his house again tomorrow with a new keyboard so i will continue then

Than You

That's strange... It rebooted fine after the use of Combofix.. and from what I see the files were deleted.
None of the files Combofix deleted should cause this.
Were there any other files you have deleted before you started with the instructions here? This is really important to know...
So it basically sits at the starting Windows screen?
I really have no clue what caused this though - but something got corrupted here since you turned your PC off by the switch while Combofix was processing the "Now rebooting"
