This is my first post and I am not savvy as to protocol. Hope I am in the right forum, if not, please advise.

My Dell Inspiration E1505 is acting really strange.

1 Moving really slow even though I have a Gig of ram.
2 Several applications, both Windows and aftermarket, will not come up
and error message wants me to put in the installation disk.
3 the restore system will not restore to a previous date.
4 My Maxtor external hard drive has always been the F: drive.
It has changed to G: drive

I am running System Mechanic 7 Pro for protection. I am prone to putting a lot of stuff on my hard drive
but I still have 10 gigs of free space out of 31 Gigs with 89 Gigs of free space on my external drive out of 189 Gigs.

I'm sure there are other problems I can not think of right now and I hope I have given enough Info. for you to make an assessment.

What do I do now?

Is the system mechanic the only protection that you have, and anti adware or spayware, no firewall?

Have you tried doing a Last Know Good Configuration?

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.

Thanks dc3 for your quick response. The System Mechanic includes virus protection and a firewall. I think it addresses Spy Ware also, it is supposed to be an all in one protection system.

You ask if I have tried to go back to the last known good configuration. If that is the same thing as System Restore, it allows you to restore to a previous date then yes. I have tried three times going back as far as two months and it gives me an error message indicating it is unable to restore to a previous date.

I use a Linksys wireless system, could that be a factor? It is unsecured (when I tried to secure it it created all sorts of problems) so I have tried to be sure I was well protected.

I just realized that System Mechanics and Dell perform several "tune up" functions. I am guilty of useing them both. Could I have created software conflicts?

I have not heard back from anyone since the 23rd. Is there anyone that can give me an idea as to what to try?

I posted several days ago and have gotten no response.

Grinler suggested: "I think the person helping you just does not know. I suggest, you bump the topic by posting a simple
"I have not heard back from anyone. Is there anything anyone can suggest I try?"
so that others know you are still waiting."

My Inspiron E1505 is acting up in several ways.

See my posts as Michael T, I have tried all diagnostics available and have the best protection on my laptop I can find.

I am not sure if I have addressed Spyware so I tried to load Stopzilla and it seizes up at 4%.

Is there anything anyone can suggest I try?

What other programs and what is the entire error message? Post a screenshot if possible.

Is/was System Restore turned on?

Do you have a multi-card reader or any other USB device installed?

Michael, last known good configuration is NOT the same thing as system restore.

Please read the tutorial below, which is actually how to boot into safe mode.
Follow the steps, but on the menu screen choose last known good configuration.
It may work, it may not-but at least you can say you did try it.

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/104279/getting-into-safe-mode/

Concerning system restore: have you checked to see if it is turned on?
If you do have to enable it, obviously it won't help you any right now, but in the future
you'll be able to (at least in theory) restore back to an earlier time.
