Good day all, New to the sight and looking for help. I think we've been hijacked.

When we go to google and do a search (ie golf) and we choose a link, we get sent to random sites (ie webcrawler or a catch all product site). The address bar shows a redirection by/from weblight. If we catch it in time we can go back to the google search page. If not we will get a page 404 and won't allow us to back out of the page. It happens on both IE and Firefox.

Ran a scan with Super Antispyware and it found something called kdoob.exe.

Ran a scan with Spybot and it found something called zlob.dns changer.rtk.

I'm still learning about HJT Logs (would like to learn a lot more) but the entries at 015 trusted zone don't look right to me.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello golferguy,

Looks like you have several nasty infections on this computer.

Click on start, then control panel, and then double-click on add/remove programs.
From within add/remove program uninstall the following (if they exist) by double-clicking on the following entries:

Ebates_MoeMoneyMaker

reboot your comptuer.

*******************************************

Download CCleaner and install it. (default location is best). Do not run it yet!

Please download the OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it.
  • Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

    C:\WINDOWS\System32\l?gonui.exe /u
    C:\Program Files\Ebates_MoeMoneyMaker

  • Return to OTMoveIt2, right click on the "Paste List of Files/Folders to be moved" window and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • Copy everything on the Results window to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it on your next reply.
  • Note : If a reboot was necessary or you needed to Exit before posting the log, you will find a copy of the log at the root of the drive where OTMoveIt is installed, usually at :
    C:\_OTMoveIt2\MovedFiles\********_******.log
    (where "********_******" is the "date_time")
  • Close OTMoveIt2
If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

Caution: Be careful of what you copy and paste with this tool. OTMoveIt2 is a powerful program, designed to move highly persistent files and folders. Not following the directions as instructed or using incorrectly could lead to disastrous problems with your operating system.

*******************************************

*NOTE* CCleaner deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups.

Let's empty the temp files:

Run CCleaner.

CAUTION: Please do NOT use the Issues or Registry button. This is a built-in registry cleaner. If you don't know how to use it, you may cause irreparable damage to your system.

1. Starting with v1.27.260, CCleaner installs the Yahoo Toolbar as an option which IS checkmarked by default during the installation.
IF you do NOT want it, REMOVE the checkmark when provided with the option OR download the toolbarfree Basic version instead of the Standard Build.

2. Before first use, select Options > Advanced and UNCHECK "Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 48 hours"

3. Then select the items you wish to clean up.

In the Windows Tab:
Clean all entries in the "Internet Explorer" section except Autocomplete Forum History.
Clean all the entries in the "Windows Explorer" section.
Clean all entries in the "System" section except for Start Menu Shortcuts and Desktop Shortcuts.
Clean any others that you choose.

In the Applications Tab:
Clean all including cookies in the Firefox/Mozilla section if you use it.
Clean all in the Opera section if you use it.
Clean Sun Java in the Internet Section.
Clean any others that you choose.

4. Click the "Run Cleaner" button.
5. A pop up box will appear advising this process will permanently delete files from your system.
6. Click "OK" and it will scan and clean your system.
7. Click "exit" when done.

If it asks you to reboot at the end, click NO.

CCleaner should be run with the above settings for each User Account!

*******************************************

Reboot your computer, post a new Hijackthis log and the OTMoveIt log.

*******************************************

Download FindAWF:
http://noahdfear.geekstogo.com/FindAWF.exe
Save the file to the Desktop
Double-click the FindAWF icon.

If a Security Alert shows, allow the program to run.
As instructed, press any key to continue.
Use the following option: Press 1 then Enter to scan for bak folders
The scan may take a while, please be patient.

When done, a text file, Find AWF report is produced that we need to look at.
Please post it in your reply.

SifuMike, Thanks for the response. I'll get on it right away. Do any of the steps need to be done in Safe Mode?

I'll get a post back to you as soon as possible.

Sifu Mike, Thanks. Just wanted to make sure. Here is what I've got for you. I ran CCleaner on all accounts.

I'm doing this on a different computer so there will be a delay in my responses. I lost my internet last night after completing all of the steps you outlined. Also, no connection this morning and I had to get to work.

Once files.txt is saved, FindAWF does the following:
-It attempts to terminate the process represented by each filename on the list, if running
-Deletes the rogue file from the parent folder, if present
-Copies the original file to the parent folder

When done with the above, it automatically runs a new scan and opens a new log.
Please provide the new FindAWF log in your reply.

SifuMike, It doesn't appear to be anything that we did. I just had Verizon troubleshoot and I think we have an intermittent DSL jack.

I could not locate the following line on the original HJT Log: O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Cmttn] C:\WINDOWS\System32\l?gonui.exe

Do you still want me to continue with your steps above?

If a Security Alert shows, allow the program to run.
As instructed, press any key to continue.
Use the following option: Press 3 then Enter to remove bak folders

A text file opens called: folders.txt
Click below the line and paste the following list of folders to be removed:

C:\WINDOWS\bak
C:\Program Files\AIM6\bak
C:\Program Files\iTunes\bak
C:\Program Files\Lexmark 3100 Series\bak
C:\Program Files\QuickTime\bak
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\bak
C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG7\bak
C:\Program Files\Verizon\Servicepoint\bak
C:\Program Files\Verizon\SmartBridge\bak
C:\Program Files\Verizon\Verizon Internet Security Suite\bak
C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\bak
C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\bak
C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\UpdateService\bak
C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_01\bin\bak
C:\Program Files\Roxio\Easy CD Creator 5\DirectCD\bak

Next, close and click Yes to save the changes.

When done with the above, FindAWF automatically runs a new scan and opens a new log that you need to post.
Please provide the new FindAWF log in your reply and DO NOT post a Hijackthis log.

SifuMike, I'll get on it as soon as I get on my computer. Just a couple quick questions.

1. Will removing the specified folders do anything to the programs associated with them?

2. Is there a tutorial on how to decipher HJT logs? I'd like to learn.

Thanks and will get the info to you later.

No.

Here is a tutorial. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/how-to-use-hijackthis/

It takes months of training to know how to remove malware, so unless you intend to spend the time in training yourself, I would not recommend you remove items from your Hijackthis log yourself. It is not a tool to be taken lightly.

SifuMike, I'm not abut to tackle this stuff. Just was curious about what all of the entries on an HJT Log mean.

Here's the new Log.

Hi golferguy,

Please download the OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it.
  • Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\bak

Please run FindAWF with option 1 and post the log.
