Okay I'm really sorry if this is in the wrong place. I have been dealing with windows XP forever and today I had to get a Vista because my XP hardrive completely crashed and my brother couldn't fix it (and he's very smart with computers but now he is gone so I cannot ask him what I am about to ask you all). Okay I got an external hardrive for Christmas and had been using it woth the XP and today I plugged it into the vista. I am able to access the external hardrive folder and everything but when I try to save a download to the folder I get the error:

J:\NSSetupB.exe
You don't have permission to save in this location. Contact the administrator to obtain permission.

So what am I supposed to do? Please help me.

I had the same thing happen, but I was given the opportunity to "take ownership". Are you an admin on that computer? If not, make yourself one. Right Click - My Computer, Left Click - Manage. Expand the Users and Groups, selecting groups. Select Administrator and if you are not there, add yourself, if you can.

Then Right Click on the folder that you want to save to. Left Click - Properties, then choose the Security tab. Check there first to see if you are listed and what your permissions are. If necessary, you can go into Advanced and select the Ownership tab and take ownership of the folder.

Good luck. I hope this helps.

My brother set up the computer so I had/have no idea. I TRIED taking ownership and I even thought that I did but I'm getting an ownership error when trying to delete files from the external hardrive. It tells me I do not have permission.

When I go to Manage under my computer, there is no Users and Groups anywhere!?
