It appears that the Adware.Purityscan reloads everytime I restart my computer. I have Symantec Antivirus installed and earlier today the Auto Protect Scan caught the infection but gives a message of "Terminate process required" which requires a reboot of computer. Every time I reboot Auto Protect catches the infection again and it is a never ending cycle; it reloads every time I reboot. Symantec lists the file path as - C:\Documents and Settings\Terry\M with filename of - netdde.exe, User is - System. A second infection was listed as - Downloader.MisleadingApp with a path of C:\Program Files\Dot1XCfg\Dot1..., and filename of - Dot1XCfg.exe but that file was deleted.

I also have Webroot Spysweeper5.5 installed and ran it also. It did not find anything today. Ad-Aware SE Personal found only 7 most recently used files, nothing critical. Also installed PC Tools Firewall Plus yesterday. At startup today it flagged two attempts to connect to the internet, and I blocked them. First was: spoolsv (C:\Program Files\Common Files\Tasks\spoolsv.exe) trying to connect to Remote Address: campaigns.outerinfo.net at (63.251.135.15) Remote Port: 80. Second was: spoolsv (C:\Program Files\Common Files\Tasks\spoolsv.exe) trying to connect to Remote Address: www.whatismyip.com (66.11.119.72) Remote Port: 80. At Symantec Security Response web site there is a fix listed but I was unable to find any of the files listed in the registry that they said to remove. I did disable System Restore in my efforts to make repairs.

Right now the Auto-Protect results screen is up and says Terminate Process Required giving the option to remove the risk. If I click the button it will want me to reboot, and the wheel turns round and round. Please help me get rid of this thing, as I am at wits end. Here is my hijack this log file:

Welcome to the BleepingComputer HijackThis Logs and Analysis forum tuckert
My name is Richie and i'll be helping you to fix your problems.

I did disable System Restore in my efforts to make repairs.

Please enable System Restore.

Your version of Sun Java is out of date.
Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.
Please follow these steps to remove older versions of Sun Java, and then update.
1. Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE)
2. Scroll down to where it says 'Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 update 4'.
3. Click the "Download" button to the right.
4. Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
5. The page will refresh.
6. Click on the link to download 'Windows Offline Installation jre-6u4-windows-i586-p.exe' [15.12 MB] and save to your desktop.
7. Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
8. Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
9. Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
10. Click the Change/Remove button.
11. Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java version.
12. Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
13. Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u4-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.

Temporarily disable SPYSWEEPER or it will interfere:

* Open Spy Sweeper and click on Options > Program Options and uncheck "load at windows startup".
* On the left click "shields" and then uncheck everything there.
* Uncheck "home page shield".
* Uncheck "automatically restore default without notification".
* Exit the program.
* (When we are done, you can re-enable it using the same steps but this time reverse them.)

Visit this webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix.
This includes installing the Windows XP Recovery Console in case you have not installed it yet.

Post the entire contents of C:\ComboFix.txt into your next reply.
Also post a new Hijackthis log.

Reboot your computer into SAFE MODE using the F8 method.
To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup (but before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly.
A menu will appear with several options.

Hey RichieUK!

Thanks for that quick response. Well, I did all that you recommended and here is the logfile from SuperAntispyware for your review. By the way, I did not get the PurityScan autofix popup in Symantec when I rebooted. Sure hope it's gone. Let me know what you think.

Your log is clean  ,please do the following:

Click on Start/Run,copy and paste ComboFix /u into the 'Open:' space, then press Ok.
This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, reset your clock settings, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and resets System Restore again.

Please double-click OTMoveIt.exe again to run it.
Click on the 'Cleanup' button Posted Image
When you do this a text file named cleanup.txt will be downloaded from the internet.
If you get a warning from your firewall or other security programs regarding OTMoveIt attempting to contact the internet you should allow it to do so.
When the 'Confirm' box appears click 'Yes'.
Restart your pc when prompted.
