Gateway Laptop Dvd/cd Rom Problem

the dvd rom drive its not working or wont show on my computer the computer its a gateway mt3705 ,on the device manager shows an exclamation point ,(windows cannot strt this device because it its registry is damage or imcomple code 19) i boot up a windows vista upgrade and it boot up from it ,but i want to know if i have to reinstall windows or i could fix this problem without restoring it. thanks

I think that you have a problem with driver. Try to find a driver for you DVDRom, install it. That'll be fine again.

The driver for the DVD-ROM drive is a part of the chipset drivers for your motherboard. The first thing I'd do would be to uninstall it in Device Manager (right click and select "Uninstall" - then reboot and let Windows re-detect and install it. If that doesn't work, then try updating your motherboard/chipset drivers from the Gateway support website.
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.
