Hello,

I have had some interesting problems for the last few weeks. It seems that when I perform a Yahoo search, and receive the search results, then I select one of the results, I am re-directed to a sales site like shopzilla.com.
I have read and followed Grinler's instructions in"Read this topic first before posting a log" at the top of this forum.
When I completed the tasks mentioned in Grinlers instructions I noticed that the re-direction has stopped. However, when I run SpyBot S&D, the same 2 results are still in the SpyBot results; Zlob.DNSChanger.rtk, and Zlob.DNSchanger. Below is my Hijackthis log for your review. Thanks for your help, Skipper111.

Hello Richie,

I have a similar symptoms to some other posts involving IE 6 redirects of IE searches, except for the reported cause of the problem. I am using Windows 2000 Professional, with SP 4, and Internet Explorer 6. I also use Yahoo for my home page, mostly because my ISP is SBC Yahoo DSL. My DSL Router has it's own Firewall, and I use McAfee Internet Security, and Firewall.

When I perform a search like "McLaren F-1", I receive numerous responses. When I select one of those responses, I will sometimes see a "click here to continue" message at the top of the window. Even if I wait it out, approximately 15 seconds, I am still sent to one of many shopping pages, and occasionally another search engine. None of these has anything to do with my original search quest. One of the shopping pages is "Shopzilla". These shopping pages appear randomly with each access of search results.

When I originally experienced this problem, I asked for help from one of my friends at work, who just happens to be the MIS department's IT Supervisor. He suggested scanning with Ad-Aware, and SpyBot S&D. Each reported several instances of Spy ware or Malware, with the most prominent being Zlob.dnschanger.rtk, and Zlob.dnschanger. (these were 2 different items)

While I was looking for information, I happened on Bleeping Computer. As I was reading different posts, I read Grinler's post on how to prepare for posting any logs. It turns out that the link that you supplied me was Grinler's preparation post.

When I got to a scan with Ad-Aware, one pass, then a re-start, a second scan produced no further results. However SpyBot S&D continued to report the same 2 items as before, Zlob.dnschanger.rtk, and Zlob.dnschanger, even after several re-starts, and successive scans.

I then performed scans with Trend Micro's House Calls, and later McAfee Avert Stinger. Neither reported any further results. The last thing I did was to run a scan with Hijack This, and posted its log. The interesting part was that the IE redirects stopped for a few days, then re-appeared. Subsequent scans reported the same results, the Zlob items.

Sorry that I didn't get back in time to edit my original post to add this last bit of information. I only have enough time on a daily basis to run a few items in Grinler's preparation post, as some of the scans take nearly an hour to complete, with restarts. I will need some time to go through all of the tasks again, and supply a new Hijack This log.

I hope that you can benefit from this detailed explanation, until I can complete all of the tasks in your link. I wanted to avoid a long delay between communications with you.

Best Regards, and thanks for your patience,
Skipper111

Hi Richie,

I have posted a new Hijack-This log that I ran this morning, 1-31-08. I also saved the logs from the other scans, Ad-Aware, SpyBot S&D, House Call, and Stinger. If you want them, I'll post them on the next round. Fyi: I had to run Ad-Aware 3 times for a clean report. SpyBot S&D never did give me a clean report. The Zlob.DNSchanger items kept coming up. Neither Housecall nor Stinger found anything. I don't think Stinger is searching for Zlob.

Thanks for your patience,
Skipper111

Download Fixwareout from the link below:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe
Save it to your desktop and run it.
Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin, follow the prompts.
Your firewall may give an alert,(because this tool will download an additional file from the internet),please don't let your firewall block it,allow it instead.
Then you will be asked to reboot your computer, please do so.
Your system may take longer than usual to load, this is normal.
After the reboot post the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt in your next reply.
Please Note:
Only do the following if you have connection problems after performing the above steps:
Go to Start>Control Panel, and choose 'Network Connections'.
Then right click on your default connection, usually 'Local Area Connection' or 'Dial-up Connection' if you are using Dial-up,then left click on 'Properties'.
Double-click on the 'Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)' item and select the radio button that says: 'Obtain DNS servers Automatically'.
Click OK twice,restart your computer.

If you have previously downloaded ComboFix,please delete that version now.
Warning
You should NOT use Combofix unless you have been instructed to do so by a Malware Removal Expert.
It is intended by its creator to be used under the guidance and supervision of an expert,NOT for private use.
Using this tool incorrectly could render your system/pc inoperable.

Now download Combofix by sUBs and save to your desktop.
Alternative Combofix download link HERE.
Note
It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop

Close any open browsers.
Double click on combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When it's finished it will produce a log.
Post the entire contents of C:\ComboFix.txt into your next reply.
Note
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running.
That may cause the program to freeze/hang.

Do NOT post the ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt unless I ask.
Note
In case your Antivirus or any other realtime scanner is displaying an alert after you downloaded Combofix or while you use Combofix, please disable your scanner and redownload Combofix again.
Some scanners may see some combofix related components as suspicious and block or delete them while there's nothing wrong with them.

Also post a new Hijackthis log please.

Good Evening Richie,

I have run the applications as you instructed, Fixwareout, ComboFix, and a new Hijackthis log. There were no problems that you didn't warn me about. There were no problems with my firewall or the Virus scanner. There were also no problems re-connecting to the internet. The Logs that you asked me to post are in the order that you requested.

Thanks for your help,
Skipper111

Your version of Sun Java is out of date.
Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.
Please follow these steps to remove older versions of Sun Java, and then update.
1. Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE)
2. Scroll down to where it says 'Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 update 4'.
3. Click the "Download" button to the right.
4. Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
5. The page will refresh.
6. Click on the link to download 'Windows Offline Installation jre-6u4-windows-i586-p.exe' [15.12 MB] and save to your desktop.
7. Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
8. Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
9. Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
10. Click the Change/Remove button.
11. Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java version.
12. Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
13. Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u4-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.

Download ATF Cleaner by Atribune:

Do not run it just yet.

Download\install 'SuperAntiSpyware Home Edition Free Version' from here:
http://www.superantispyware.com/downloadfi...ANTISPYWAREFREE

Launch SuperAntiSpyware and click on 'Check for updates'.
Once the updates have been installed, exit SuperAntiSpyware.
Do not run it just yet.

Now double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click 'Select All' found at the bottom of the list.
Click the 'Empty Selected' button.

If you use Firefox browser, do this also:
Click Firefox at the top and choose 'Select All' from the list.
Click the 'Empty Selected' button.
NOTE:
If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click 'No' at the prompt.

If you use Opera browser,do this also:
Click Opera at the top and choose 'Select All' from the list.
Click the 'Empty Selected' button.
NOTE:
If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click 'No' at the prompt.
Click 'Exit' on the Main menu to close the program.

Now Start SuperAntiSpyware.
On the main screen click on 'Scan your computer'.
Check: 'Perform Complete Scan'.
Click 'Next' to start the scan.

Superantispyware will now scan your computer, when it's finished it will list all/any infections found.
Make sure everything found has a checkmark next to it,then press 'Next'.
Click on 'Finish' when you've done.

It's possible that the program will ask you to reboot in order to delete some files.

Obtain the SuperAntiSpyware log as follows:
Click on 'Preferences'.
Click on the 'Statistics/Logs' tab.
Under 'Scanner Logs' double click on 'SuperAntiSpyware Scan Log'.
It will then open in your default text editor, such as Notepad.

Hello again Richie,

I would have gotten back sooner, but we have been recovering from a large snowfall.
I performed all of the tasks that you reccommended in your last post, and installed JRE 6, update 4.
I tried a few web searchs using IE 6, and Yahoo. The searchs ran without the anoying redirects to the sales / shopping pages. The only problem that came up, was when I ran a Yahoo search for Mclaren F1. The site loaded normally. On their site they have videos that can be viewed, like the record speed run when the F1 gained the title of the fastest production car in the world. The video would run for about 45 seconds, then would suddenly stop. My PC was not locked up, because I could stop, then restart the video, until it stopped in the same spot. I am not sure if this would be a random action, and I will not know until I can check the video on another computer. It could very well be a site problem on the McLaren Cars end. I just don't know. For now things seem to be back to normal.

Here are the logs from SuperAntiSpyware, and Hijack This.

Good Morning Richie,

I ran OTMoveIt2, and it produced a list of items in its right pane. However they were all "Not Found", with the exception of one item. This item was "Unable to delete service gmer". I have added the OTMmoveIt2 list for your review. OTMoveIt2 never got to the point of telling me to restart my computer. Did I miss something?

Best Regards,
