I have a spyware virus on my computer IEDefender. I have read the instuctions on the site to remove this.
However I am not able to download smitfraudfix.exe to my computer. When I click on the link an error box comes up that says windows cannot access the path....I may not have appropriate permision.

Can you someone help me with the directions to download smitfraudfix or explain a way to remore IEDefender spyware without paying for a program.

Thanks!!

Is that the only program your having trouble downloading? I just tried and the link is working fine for me.

In the menu at the top of Internet Exlporer go to "Tools" > "Internet Options" > "Security" tab, click "Internet Zone", then click the "Custom level" button. Look under "Downloads" and check to see if "File Download" is Enabled? If not, enable it and click the "OK" button.

Make sure your downloading the file while logged into the "Administrator Account" or an "account with administrator privileges".

Depending on your browser security settings, you may receive an alert under the top menu Information Bar that says "To help protect your security, Internet Explorer blocked this site from downloading files to your computer. Click here for options..." Click on that alert and choose "Download File". The File Download dialog box will appear asking "Do you want to open or save this file?" Enter you choice.

Here are alternate links.

If you continue to have problems, download the file from another computer, save to a usb stick and transfer to yours.

I'M ALSO UNABLE TO GET RID OF IE DEFENDER AND THE ICON I GET FROM SMITFRAUDFIX IS NOT THE BLUE ONE SHOWN, BUT RATHER A FOLDER WHICH OPENS TO ALOT OF CHOICES. I AM USING THE SAFE MODE OF WINDOWS BUT DIDNT KNOW TO DOWNLOAD FROM THE ADMIN LOGON. ALSO WHAT I GET DOES NOT HAVE THE EXE. AT THE END.

THE ICON I GET FROM SMITFRAUDFIX IS NOT THE BLUE ONE SHOWN

That's because there is no blue icon. The blue is part of the desktop wallpaper surrounding the icon so you can see it more clearly in the self-help guide. The actual file icon is yellow and diamond shaped.

You double-click on that yellow icon (which should be on the desktop) to start the program and select your options. If you don't see .exe at the end, then that means you have Windows configured to hide the extension. The extension is there, you just cannot see it so don't be concerned about that. The folder contains files that is used by the smitfraudfix tool.

-- If the tool fails to launch from the Desktop, please move smitfraudFix.exe to the root of the system drive (usually C:\), and run it from there.
