Hi, I live in the country and can only get satellite internet, not DSL or Cable.

Whenever I am downloading a file, I usually get 40-70kb/sec. speed, but ANYTIME I'm downloading a file I can't really surf the internet at the same time, since the act of downloading a file cripples my ability to surf.

Is there a way I can change my settings so that the download goes slower, but I can surf the internet quickly at the same time?

Thanks very much for your input.

Jeff

Download managers just cripple the speed even more. I live in NW Ohio.

Thanks for your reply. If anyone else has input, would greatly appreciate it.

Hi JDM2,

My situation is similar to yours, except that I'm on slow dialup, with an average download speed of 3.00kb/s if I'm not also surfing. My lifesaver is FreeDownloadManager, which has three download-speed settings, with the lower two still allowing for surfing, depending on your bandwidth. It's free software, not adware or spyware, and has a multitude of options, such as scheduling your d/ls, specifying folders for the d/ls, and on and on and on.

I know you said that d/l managers cripple your speed even more, but this one is definitely worth a try, IMO. What have you got to lose? Otherwise, I don't know of any solutions within Windows itself.

Good luck!
