windows keeps crashing. i just formatted last week and put everything back on the system. explorer will crash for no reason what so ever and i thought maybe it was because of a program i was running but i can restart run the program and everything is fine and i could have the computer running all night just to wake up to a error message and it telling me windows explorer encountered a error and must shut down or something around that. this is odd because nothing was running and since this has been happening since i formatted and reinstalled windows xp, i'm thinking maybe it was just a bad install? i am going to try going to run and using the sfc /scannow feature to have windows fix anything that may of not installed correctly and if that fixes it i will post but if not then oh well, back to the drawing board so to speak.

I want you to fix some of those entries. Please do the following:

Please make sure that you can view all hidden files. Instructions on how to do this can be found here:

How to see hidden files in Windows

Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of these. Then click the Fix button

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [mspwr] C:\WINDOWS\System32\PuXpMan.exe

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode and delete the following files:

Then delete these files or directories (Do not be concerned if they do not exist)

Disable System Restore. You can find instructions on how to enable and reenable system restore here:

Managing Windows Millenium System Restore

Windows XP System Restore Guide

Renable system restore with instructions from tutorial above

Reboot your computer to go back to normal mode and do the following:

Download CWShredder from the below link and unzip it into a directory. Start CWShredder and click on the FIx button to have it remove all CWS infections it finds.

Download CWShredder from:

After you download the program, unzip it into a directory. Make sure all browser windows are closed and double click on the cwshredder.exe to start the program. When the program is loaded click on the "Check for Update" button, and if it finds an new version it will download it. You should then double click on cwshredder.exe again and click on the "FIX" button (not the "Scan only" button) and let it scan your computer.

A tutorial that goes over this process step by step can be found here:

How to remove CoolWebSearch with CoolWeb Shredder

Then reboot and post a new log

about blank is my default internet explorer page, i set it for about blank because i don't like having a home page.

zero popup is a popup blocker i use to block pop up's, spyware and some activex spyware. also it doesn't popup each time it blocks something telling me it did or asking me if it should and just for that lol it's worth the money."costs around 30 dollars" http://www.tooto.com/popup-killer/

puxpman.exe is uhhh ashampoo power up xp platinum. this programs alows me to change certain things like my system cache size for storing recent opened folders and the like, it will also change how many icons you wish to store, windows default is 1000 and the max i can set it too is around 8000. "i spent 50 dollars on this piece of software". puxpman.exe runs in the process to keep my settings active that i put in to it. http://www.ashampoo.com/

anything else than these that concern you or that may effect my computer in the way i mentioned?

on a side note. i think me doing the sfc /scannow fixed the problem but i'll give it a few days to see if it did. i ran cwschredder today before i posted and i also ran the coolwebsearch scan as well, i got these from computercops.biz. i ran spy bot search and destroy and adaware. nothing came up in spybot search and destroy except dso exploits which are related to my internet zones, which are the way i want them set. adaware came back with just cookies that needed to be deleted. i ran ashampoo winoptimizer and did a scan on my hard drive for redundant files and mru runs and deleted those as well as clearing my temp folder, i also ran in ashampoo winoptimizer the registry cleaner which came back with just 20 registry keys that needed to be deleted that was just left behind from a few programs i had installed and uninstalled "norton antivirus, which started acting up and crashing on me".

after i did all this it seems everything is running fine but like i said i'll give it a few days and see if it crashes on me again. if it does i'll just format and reinstall windows or linux lol.

forgot to mention i also did a full virus scan with panda just in case i was infected with a virus but it came back with nothing. i will run some online scans just to be sure in case panda missed something.
