Does anybody know how I can block pornographic sites without blocking everything that might be rated R or just be a little bit risky?

These days most ISPs offer free blocking tools. They all have different features but that would be the first place to check.

I found somebody in my family that might be going on these sites, more then just a now and then thing. We could be infected with something,I don't know.Anyway I tried turning on the "Content Advisor" for windows xp sp1(we're also outdated) and almost everything you go to a window pops up saying that it's blocked and it gives you a couple of choices to pick like "do you always want this site blocked or unblock this site for this this time only and you have to click one and type in a password. I had to do that to come on the bleeping computer site. This was what I was trying to aviod because i wanted to block some stuff but not everything and since I'm not the only one using this computer that means I have to help everybody when their on here by unblocking sites for them or just giving them the password and explaining why I put the thing on to begin with.So I'm kinda back where I started.Any other ideas out there?

If I were you, the first thing I'd do is tell everyone in your family to stay off the computer until you resolve these issues. I'd then hightail it over to the Am I Infected? forum and ask the experts there to help you clean up your machine. Be sure to follow their instructions to the letter.

Once your machine is cleaned up (which probably includes downloading SP2 at some point, but wait for them to tell you when to do it), folks will be in a better position to help you limit the surfing for various members in your family.

Good luck!

you are vulnerable as you have NOT got SP2 on there nor can you upload it while you are probably infected ; if you have not already run these all free programs;take a restore point; update reboot , take a new restore point then and run each on a full deep scan

To answer your initial question. Take a look at this link: Blocking Unwanted Parasites with a Hosts File

Thanks a lot for all the advice. It looks like it's going to take awhile to do all of this and I probably won't be able to start until Monday. The reason why I don't have sp2 is because everytime I tried to download it my whole computer was messed up until I had to reinstall windows xp1 from the start and part of the problem was having an older Compaq and the updates for that have to be added first and it got to a point where all the free space I had left was being used up from microsoft's never ending downloads ,updates whatever there's always something and I'm slow figuring all this out and don't always have hours to sit here and do this.Half the time when I download a update I can't go on anything after that until I go to Microsoft and find the fix for the update I just downloaded.I'm also worried that after I go through all this and somebody intentally goes to a porn site there will another problem.I love my pc and thought they were great when they came out for home users but I'm sure that while Bill Gates is laying in bed at night counting dollar signs before he drifts off to sleep knowing the next day there's a new update to screw up somebody like me ,he's just laughing his ass off.
