Hi,

I am running xp pro with CA anti virus, a d link router with firewall and ad aware SE all installed. I keep getting popups telling me that my AV is ourt of date ( which it isn't) and also loads of other popups about system problems that dont exist. my anti Virus does keep detecting and deleting trojans, but they keep comming back again. I have gone through all the steps you suggest before sending this in, as well as running "combofix" and "vundofix" but the problem just keeps recurring. I have appended both the hijack this and the combofix logs below, I can only hope they mean more to you than they do to me lol.

can you help me please?

many thanks in antisipation

Ron

Hi Richie,

I hope you can help me, I keep getting adverts appearing inside IE pages for spyware removers etc, and every morning I am getting messages from my spybot ( which runs overnight ) telling me that it has found and removed reg entries relating to virtumondo as well as other files and cookies. also, when I close a window, be it a windows explorer window or an IE window, my desktop clears for a few seconds, then completlet refreshes, rebuilding all the icons! I am also getting loads of ie windows opening advertising all sorts of software, as well as bogus system warnings, most of which which I kill off with my popup killer.

anyway, the new HJT log is as follows.

thanks for your help, be it sucessfull or otherwise, your time and assistance is very much appreciated.

Hi Richie

I have already tun combofix a number of times, but I have followed your advice and here are the results. when I first set up my PC, it designated the root drive as "F " BTW, not "c" . it does confuse one or two programs, but is not worth the bother of changing now, so i leave it like that.

anyway, the logs are:

Please disable Spybot S&Dís protection,or it will interfere.
You can enable it after you're clean.

Open Spybot and click on 'Mode' and check 'Advanced Mode'.
Click on 'Tools' in bottom left hand corner.
Click on the 'System Startup' icon.
Uncheck 'Teatimer' box and/or uncheck 'Resident'.
Click the 'Allow Change' box.
Then, check next to the computer clock to see if the icon for Spybot is still there.
If it is, right click it and choose 'exit Spybot-S&D Resident'.
Restart the computer.
If you find you're experiencing problems disabling Spybot's Tea-Timer,follow the info in the link below:
http://www.russelltexas.com/malware/teatimer.htm

Copy and paste ALL the following text in the Quote box below into Notepad.
Click on File(in the menu at the top)>Save as../Save as Type: 'All Files' /File name: CFScript to your desktop.

File::
F:\WINDOWS\system32\vtsqo.dll
Registry::
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\~\Browser Helper Objects\{7A9516B6-AC6C-4A7E-ABA8-C3D75BF855FF}]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\~\Browser Helper Objects\{8207CD6F-0301-4686-B95B-4A4692EDF69A}]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\~\Browser Helper Objects\{9ef7d362-e756-427d-accf-87e3e8930d3c}]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\~\Browser Helper Objects\{daeba0c0-0193-4ddf-b249-7c432d3cd89b}]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\winlogon\notify\SensLogon]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\currentcontrolset\control\lsa]
Authentication Packages REG_MULTI_SZ msv1_0
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupreg\000000af]

Now drag then drop the CFScript file onto ComboFix.exe as seen in the image below.

This will start ComboFix again.
After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply along with a new HijackThis log.

Your version of Sun Java is out of date.
Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.
Please follow these steps to remove older versions of Sun Java, and then update.
1. Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE)
2. Scroll down to where it says 'Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 update 4'.
3. Click the "Download" button to the right.
4. Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
5. The page will refresh.
6. Click on the link to download 'Windows Offline Installation jre-6u4-windows-i586-p.exe' [15.12 MB] and save to your desktop.
7. Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
8. Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
9. Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
10. Click the Change/Remove button.
11. Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java version.
12. Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
13. Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u4-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.

Hi Richie,

Many thanks once again for your help so far.

I have followed your advice to the letter, and at the moment it looks as though you might have solved the problem. I wont know for a day or so, as it has been OK for a while before, then gone back to finding nasties overnight, so I will have to see how things go, but so far, so good---

The desktop dosen't seem to be refreshing every time I close a window, and it seems a bit faster, so I am hopefull, but I dare not tempt providence by saying it is cured just yet lol.

anyway, here is the latest logs, and I will come back in a couple and let you know how it is going ( if it is sooner, then I still have a problem lol)

many, many thanks once again

Ron

Your log is clean  ,please do the following:

Click on Start/Run,copy and paste ComboFix /u into the 'Open:' space, then press Ok.
This will uninstall Combofix, delete its related folders and files, reset your clock settings, hide file extensions, hide the system/hidden files and resets System Restore again.

Hi Richie,

Just a quickie to say everything is fine and no reoccourance of the problems thus far.

A big thank you to yourself, it really was driving me crackers and I just could not get rid of the problems without your help. I really appreciate the advice you gave me, and only hope that I dont need to call on your very generous help again. I have read through the advice you pointed to in your last posting, and implemented it, so hopefully, I will have a good chace of remaining free of problems.

anyway, a big and most sincere thank you once again.

Ron
