Hi All. Need some help here. I got a laptop that will only power on when you plug in an external monitor. Well actually all you need to do is touch outer earth of the monitor plug to the earth of the monitor socket and the green light for the battery charge comes on. You can then turn on the laptop and it works fine. The external monitor doesn't even need to be switched on.
Doing this however causes the power board inside the computer to buzz. If I remove the battery it stops buzzing!
Is the battery knackard? Is it just a bad earth? Is the mobo knackard?
Any help welcome here!

A common problem with laptops is the DC power jack. Either it or another ground point internally is bad by the sound of it. Also double check the power adapter with a voltmeter if possible
