a few years ago i heard something about basing filters useing another computer to filter all the data that comes in and out of your network im not eveing sure if im spelling it wright. basling filter, i have an extra computer its doing nothing but keeping my feet off the ground hehe i was wonding if it is still a viable option. i have alot of free tiem on my hands so i can grind and try to figure it out but im not sure were to get started. does it work for virus too?

Hello,

Would I be right in saying that you want to turn a spare computer into a firewall or similar? If this is the case, I would recommend smoothwall http://www.smoothwall.org/

Will it stop viruses? that depends on a number of factors. But it would certainly increase your security.

lol, had that computer on for about 1hr it was working will but it died rolf now i need a nother pc to have that set up.
