Hi

I am trying to create a bootable AVG CD with Nero 6 to use in DOS. My efforts so far are pants, I am flummoxed by the image file needed in Nero??? I assume this is the key. What should go here? I have all the AVG files on my C drive ready to burn to disk. I could find no tutorial on the net.

Hello,

Have you tried the Ultimate Boot CD? http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/index.html
While it doesn't have AVG or NERO, it is possible to custimise the cd if I remember correctly.
Regards,

Alan.

The problem with that is that definitions are considerably outa date.

I have played around with this guide:

http://www.helpwithwindows.com/WindowsXP/w...sp2-bootcd.html

But when booting it says cannot find file: NTDL

???

Have you made sure that you are booting from the CD in the BIOS? also, it could be that the CD does not have the correct files to boot correctly, have you tried other boot CDs? for example a Linux disto?
Regards,

Alan.

OK

I'm running way ahead of myself here. Basically I need an image file as requested by Nero 6 to get the CD to boot. Where can I find one? Can I make my own?

There should be an option when you start nero if you want to create a bootable CD, this should do it for you.

Alan.

I have selected that option but then it prompts for boot image files [*.IMA]?

In that case, you can still follow the guide without using Nero, http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic3616.html has an extensive list scroll to the CD & DVD Applications
CDBurnerXPPro
Deep Burner
Are both free and capable.

Alan.

Did you put any files on the bootable CD?

I added AVG.EXE + associated files. I used the bootable image that you can download from CD Burner XP. There is no DOS help present, at least '?' & 'help' do not work. All I've been able to do is change the DOS prompt from 'a' to 'x'. I am a newbie to this & am probably tripping up somewhere.

I've found that wiki can be helpfull sometimes http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_DOS_commands
Having said that http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/bb491071.aspx is another great list.
Regards,

Alan.
