 Windows will not boot up properly. I keep getting this message.

Window could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
<Windows root>\system32\hal.dll.
Please re-install a copy of the above file.

I have tried booting up with the disk that came with the computer, but it gives me the same message. My computer is an emachine T6216 Desktop PC, Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition w/SP2, AMD Athlon 64 processor 3200+. :flowers:

What should I do?

You could try a System restore. Start> All Programs> Accessories> System Tools> System Restore.

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.

If you still have the disk that comes with your computer (the Windows XP disk), then you could try a repair install. Boot to the disk, and when it asks if you want to do a repair install (NOT recovery console), press R. That should replace any missing files and make your PC bootable again.

I have tried to repair with the original disk, but I keep getting error messages. This is the error message I get now.

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: System32\Drivers\Ntfs.sys
