Hi,
I hope you can help me out here. My PC has just begun behaving really strangely, with either my PC or Internet Explorer having to shut down intermittently, various warnings when I start up my spyware / virus programs "Spybot has been changed since last used. As Spybot does not change itself, we strongly recommend scanning for malware / viruses". I also noticed that my Commodo Firewall had been uninstalled.
I've scanned with Spybot / Adaware / AVG Anti Virus & all have come up clean. I've attempted to scan with Trend Micros' Housecall, PandaSoft Onine AV scan and Kaspersky's online scanner & Internet Explorer always shuts down before the scan completes.
I'm sure I'm infected with something, but need help to identify what & to get rid of it.
I've attached a Stinger Scan here :-

McAfee® Stinger Version 3.8.0 built on Sep 10 2007

Copyright © 2007 McAfee, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

Virus data file v1000 created on Sep 10 2007.

Ready to scan for 191 viruses, trojans and variants.

Scan initiated on Sun Jan 06 19:48:54 2008

Number of clean files: 337532

and a HJT log here :-

Welcome to the BleepingComputer HijackThis Logs and Analysis forum SteveB1
My name is Richie and i'll be helping you to fix your problems.

Download SDFix.exe and save it to your desktop:
http://downloads.andymanchesta.com/RemovalTools/SDFix.exe

* Double click on SDFix on your desktop, and install the fix to C:\

Please then reboot your computer into Safe Mode by doing the following:

* Restart your computer
* After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
* Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
* Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
* Choose your usual account.

* In Safe Mode,go to and open the C:\SDFix folder, then double click on RunThis.bat to start the script.
* Type Y to begin the script.
* It will remove the Trojan Services then make some repairs to the registry and prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
* Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
* Your system will take longer that normal to restart as the fixtool will be running and removing files.
* When the desktop loads the Fixtool will complete the removal and display Finished, then press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
* Finally open the SDFix folder on your desktop and copy and paste the contents of the results file Report.txt into your next reply.

If you have previously downloaded ComboFix,please delete that version now.
Warning
You should NOT use Combofix unless you have been instructed to do so by a Malware Removal Expert.
It is intended by its creator to be used under the guidance and supervision of an expert, not for private use.
Using this tool incorrectly could render your system/pc inoperable.

Now download Combofix by sUBs and save to your desktop:
Note
It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop

Close any open browsers.
Double click on combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When it's finished it will produce a log.
Post the entire contents of C:\ComboFix.txt into your next reply.
Note
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running.
That may cause the program to freeze/hang.

Do NOT post the ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt unless I ask.
Note
In case your Antivirus or any other realtime scanner is displaying an alert after you downloaded Combofix or while you use Combofix, please disable your scanner and redownload Combofix again.
Some scanners may see some combofix related components as suspicious and block or delete them while there's nothing wrong with them.

Also post a new Hijackthis log please.

I now need you to do the following if you will:
First enable the viewing of hidden files and folders, reverse the process once you've done below:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/how-to-see-hidden-files-in-windows/

Go here:http://virusscan.jotti.org/
Using the 'Browse' button,browse to:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\xtvfqvqdfbmv.sys
Then press the 'Submit' button.
Wait while the file is scanned.
Post the results into your next reply.

If Jotti's too busy,try here:
http://www.virustotal.com/en/virustotalf.html
Click on the 'Analysis' tab.
Using the 'Browse' button,browse to:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\xtvfqvqdfbmv.sys
Then click on 'Send File'.
Post the results into your next reply.

Then do exactly the same with the following file:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\xluaabsqbmct.sys
Post all the results into your next reply please.

Disclaimer
This service is by no means 100% safe. If this scanner says 'OK', it does not necessarily mean the file is clean. There could be a whole new virus on the loose. NEVER EVER rely on one single product only, not even this service, even though it utilizes several products. Therefore, We cannot and will not be held responsible for any damage caused by results presented by this non-profit online service.

Also, we are aware of the implications of a setup like this. We are sure this whole thing is by no means scientifically correct, since this is a fully automated service (although manual correction is possible). We are aware, in spite of efforts to proactively counter these, false positives might occur, for example. We do not consider this a very big issue, so please do not e-mail us about it. This is a simple online scan service, not the university of Wichita.

Scanning can take a while, since several scanners are being used, plus the fact some scanners use very high levels of (time consuming) heuristics. Scanners used are Linux versions, differences with Windows scanners may or may not occur. Another note: some scanners will only report one virus when scanning archives with multiple pieces of malware.

Virus definitions are updated every hour. There is a 10Mb limit per file. Please refrain from uploading tons of hex-edited or repacked variants of the same sample.

Please do not ask for viruses uploaded here, unless you work for an anti-virus vendor. They are not for trade. This is a legitimate service, not a VX site. Viruses uploaded here will be distributed to antivirus vendors without exception. Read more about this in our privacy policy. If you do not want your files to be distributed, please do not send them at all.

The Pc seems to be Ok, although this is the 2nd time I've had to boot it up since carrying out the fixing / cleaning & scanning. On the first boot , I got a Microsoft error message saying " msiexec.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close" and was given an option to send an error report. About 2 mins after that, the PC just froze & completely locked up. The only way I could get it going again was to turn it off at the wall for 10 seconds.
However, on this 2nd boot, I didn't receive any error messages and things are going Ok at present (touch wood!)
How do the scans look?
Cheers

Steve

Hi Richie,
Firstly let me thankyou for all your advice so far, I followed it to the letter, IE 7 is no longer shutting down and my pc seems faster than when infected.
However, my PC is still shutting down a various intervals & quite often when it boots up I get a message saying " Your computer has recovered from a serious error " and gives me a option to send an error message.
Do you have any idea what may be causing this, and more to the point, any idea how I'd find out?
Many thanks,

Steve
