This is not a serious problem . . . at least I hope not. But about a month ago I noticed that the "arrow" by the quick launch is not right. In fact, there is NO "arrow" that shows the hidden icons for programs running in the background. I've run scans, and there doesn't seem to be anything wrong. Should I be concerned about this? How can I correct it? Or is it a "why bother"?

Thanks, Pat

Do the program icons themselves show in the toolbar?

Don't worry about it. It simply means that either you turned off the option to hide inactive icons, or Windows hasn't deemed any icons inactive yet.

Some, but not all the ones that showed up before the arrow disappeared.

Patop, I just want to make sure you realize that those programs in the quicklaunch bar are not running in the background, they're just regular old shortcuts. But the ones in the system tray(on the right)are running.

Sorry I have no advice for your problem, but let us know how you get it fixed.
