You need to verify whether or not the Suite includes a resident software firewall; you should be able to find this out somewhere on the Verizon FAQ or Help sections of their website. If it does, then disable Windows firewall, since having more than one resident firewall can both slow down your computer and certainly can cause conflicts.
To my knowledge, Defender does not include a firewall (perhaps another Member can validate this).
