Undoing "make Your Folder Private"

This is what happened:
I made a folder private.
Then tried to undo it, by going through a tutorial that brought me through safe mode.
I could get back into the folder, but all the pictures would come up blank and notepad documents were still locked.
Anyone have any ideas on how to get my pictures back without using system restore? :thumbsup:
