Hi and welcome to Bleeping Computer! My name is Sam and I will be helping you.

Please download ComboFix and save it to your desktop.

Prior to running Combofix.exe you should disable your antivirus program and disconnect from the internet.

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When it's done running it will produce a log for you. Please post that log in your next reply.

Important Note - Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.
Posted Image If I have helped you in any way, please consider a donation to help me continue the fight against malware.

Failing to respond back to the person that is giving up their own time to help you not only is insensitive and disrespectful, but it guarantees that you will never receive help from me again. Please thank your helpers and there will always be help here when you need it!

Thank you Buckeye Sam for you help. I have ran ComboFix and will post the log below. First , not sure if this info will matter, but I disabled Mcafee virusprotection but it re-enabled at restart and I disabled it again while Combofix was running. Also, I had to end now a MS???.exe that was running and click OK for 2 different dll issues before W$ could reboot

You did great!

Copy and paste ALL the following text in the Quote box below into Notepad.
Click on File(in the menu at the top)>Save as../Save as Type: 'All Files' /File name: CFScript to your desktop.

Folder::
C:\VundoFix Backups

File::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\evkblegv.ini
C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsuqaoqt.ini
C:\WINDOWS\system32\iqrxyicp.tmp

Registry::
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"4ced0a06"=-

Prior to running Combofix.exe you should disable your antivirus program and disconnect from the internet.

Now drag then drop the CFScript file onto ComboFix.exe as seen in the image below.

This will start ComboFix again.
After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply along with a new HijackThis log.

  • Back on the main screen, under "Scan for Harmful Software" click Scan your computer.
  • On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive.
  • On the right, under "Complete Scan", choose Perform Complete Scan.
  • Click "Next" to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer.
  • After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK".
  • Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "Next".
  • A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu.
  • If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes".
  • To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.
    • Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.
    • Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
    • If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log. A text file will open in your default text editor.

Go here and find out which version of Java is actually running.

http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml

It may that it's uninstalled, but left the entry in the Add/Remove programs applet.
If so, we'll take care of that easily.

Tell me more about the connectivity issue with IE.
How long has it been going on?
Does it seem related to the malware issues that you were having?

I'm showing that I'm running the latest version of Java (Vs. 6 update 3). When I try to uninstall the JRE Vs. 5 it states that I already have this version installed and to uninstall it by using add/remove programs utility b4 I reinstall.

IE hasn't been able to connect using the url but I can ping ip or url in the command prompt. I've tried using the check connection in the tools menu( i think) and it says connection is good. I'm using Firefox right now on the same XP system (Thank God for Open Source and Linux). IE was popping up those annoying banners/ads but not this time, although when I tried your link about java IE tried to open but failed. Yes, I believe this IE issue is related to the malware ( or virtumonde ) problem. It was working the last time I used it to update but, IE didn't update to Vs. 7 after it downloaded it.

Thanks for you help Sam!! and I take it that my system is now free of this virtumonde issue??

See if you can download and install IE7 directly from here.
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/ie/getitnow.mspx

For your java issue, try uninstalling all versions of java, starting with the current version.
You can redownload the latest version from here.
http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

And yes, your malware issue appears to be gone.

I appreciate your help Sam but, I downloaded IE 7 and ran the install and it didn't install. It went through the install process, said to reboot so I did and IE 6 is still on my computer. IE still will not access the net.

I also uninstalled Java starting with the latest version 6 update 3, then 6 but when I got to version 5 update 3 it came up with the same error I posted in my previous post.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Go to C:\Program Files\Java and tell me what you have in that folder.

Try to repair IE6 by using these methods at this link.

Thanks for the continued help Sam.

In C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_03

Also did a scan with Spybot S&D and it showed virtumonde on my computer ( in the registry ).
I will try the link to theeldergeek and see what happens. Back in a few...

Alright I'm back. I wasn't able to use theeldergeek because this computer doesn't have OEM XP disc, but I searched microsoft about IE 6 troubles and found out my problem. Apparently the malware/trojan/spyware(s) must have changed my software firewall settings and wasn't allowing IE to access net. I'm now updating IE 6 to IE 7 and hoping it works this time.

That makes sense, but it wouldn't have been done by the malware. IE is a trojan's best friend. It needs it online to do it's dirty work.

Delete this folder.

C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_03

Run Hijackthis and click Open the Misc Tools section
Click on Open Uninstall Manager...
Scroll down and find your Java 5 update 3 and hilight it.
Then click Delete this entry

Now go install Jave 6 Update 3.

Let me know how it goes.

I have done as you asked (and I even had to boot into safe mode to remove jre 5 directory) but, JRE 5 update 3 is still showing up in add/remove programs without the option to change/remove. The update to IE 7 failed and not sure why. I have installed JRE vs. 6 update 3.

You didn't respond to my telling you that Spybot S&D found virtumonde on my computer with my last scan. Does this mean it's still on my system??

Thanks

Did you do this step?

Run Hijackthis and click Open the Misc Tools section
Click on Open Uninstall Manager...
Scroll down and find your Java 5 update 3 and hilight it.
Then click Delete this entry

I haven't seen any signs of an active Virtumonde infection so it's probably a false positive or even in system restore. Can you tell me exactly what it is finding?
