You have two cws infections. Lets get rid of the easy one first. Please follow all steps even if you had done them in the past:

You are infected with a variant of the CoolWebSearch.

Download CWShredder from the below link and unzip it into a directory. Start CWShredder and click on the FIx button to have it remove all CWS infections it finds.

Download CWShredder from:

http://www.merijn.org/files/cwshredder.zip

or

http://tools.zerosrealm.com/CWShredder.zip

After you download the program, unzip it into a directory. Make sure all browser windows are closed and double click on the cwshredder.exe to start the program. When the program is loaded click on the "Check for Update" button, and if it finds an new version it will download it. You should then double click on cwshredder.exe again and click on the "FIX" button (not the "Scan only" button) and let it scan your computer.

To get the best results it is recommended that you run it in safe mode. Reboot windows and press F8 at boot/windows startup, usually right after the beep. Then select safe mode.

A tutorial that goes over this process step by step can be found here:

How to remove CoolWebSearch with CoolWeb Shredder

Once that is completed you should follow these steps in order to clean your computer of Malware which can include Viruses, Trojans, Worms, Spyware, Hijackers and Dialers

Step 1:
Download Spybot and Adaware from the following locations and install them. You should run both programs and clean up what it finds. This is to gaurantee that you find the most malware you can installed on your computer.

Before running the scans on both programs, it is mandatory that you update the programs. There are update options in each program when you run them.

Spybot

Ad-aware

If you would like to learn more about how to use these two programs with the proper settings you can read the tutorials below:

AD-AWARE - Using Ad-aware to remove Spyware/Hijackers from Your Computer.

SPYBOT SEARCH AND DESTROY - Using Spybot - Search & Destroy to remove Spyware from Your Computer.

When you scan with both programs, fix everything that it finds.

When you are done with the scan and fixing the items. Please continue with the next step.

Step 2:

It is important that you run Spybot and Adaware before you proceed with this step. Fixing enties with Hijackthis may leave behind unwanted files on your computer if the previous step was not done first.

Create a directory on your hardrive to save HijackThis.exe. A directory like c:\hijackthis. If you do not do this, you will not be able to use the backup/restore features.

Download HijackThis from:

HijackThis

Save this file into the directory you made previously and then run the program. Click on the Scan button and when it is finished click on the Save Log button. A Notepad window will open with the contents of this log. Click on Edit then click on Select all. Then click on Edit and then Click on Copy.

Create a reply to this post, and right click in message area and select paste to paste the log into the post.

Someone will reply to you after reading this post. DO NOT fix any entries unless you understand what you are doing.

To see a tutorial on using HijackThis you can click on the link below:

HijackThis - Using HijackThis to Remove Spyware, Browser Hijackers, and Dialers

We still have a problem:

Please make sure that you can view all hidden files. Instructions on how to do this can be found here:

How to see hidden files in Windows

Step 1:

Click on start, the control panel, then administrative programs, then services. Look for a service called Network Security Service. Double click on the that service and click stop and then set the startup to disabled. Also write down the name and path of the file listed in the Path to executable field. This filename must be deleted below.

Step 2:

Press control-alt-delete to get into the task manager and end the follow processes if they exist:

sysyr32.exe
ielt32.exe

Step 3:
I now need you to delete the following files:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\sysyr32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ielt32.exe
The file from the services above. Probably C:\WINDOWS\system32\winpi.exe already listed. Need to make sure though
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ztxje.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\apppu32.dl
c:\installer\
C:\WINDOWS\system32\atlwc32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\appgg.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\winfx.exe
C:\WINDOWS\appvh32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\crwe.exe

Also delete any files that have the same name as these files but end with a dll. You should see them right next to each other.

If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. if it is uncheck it and try again.

Step 4:
Then run hijackthis and fix these entries:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\ztxje.dll/sp.html#37049
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = res://ztxje.dll/index.html#37049

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\ztxje.dll/sp.html#37049

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {32EDA743-99E4-FC95-2843-643DD9FDE9F6} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\apppu32.dll

Step 5:

In the next step we are going to remove a service that gets installed by this malware. The service will always start with __NS_Service. For the purposes of this step, we will assume that it is called NS_Service_3 but may be called something differently on your computer.

Go to Start>Run and type regedit.

Press enter.

Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\__NS_Service_3

If __NS_Service_3 exists , right click on it and choose delete from the menu.

Now navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY___NS_Service_3

If LEGACY___NS_Service_3 exists then right click on it and choose delete from the menu.

If you have trouble deleting a key. Then click once on the key name (LEGACY__NS_SERVICE_ or some other name that starts with LEGACY__NS_SERVICE) to highlight it and click on the Permission menu option under Security or Edit. Then Uncheck "Allow inheritible permissions" and press copy. Then click on everyone and put a checkmark in "full control". Then press apply and ok and attempt to delete the key again.

Step 6:

Please down About:Buster from here: http://tools.zerosrealm.com/AboutBuster.zip

Once it is download, please run the tool. When the tool is open press ok and then start. In the field labeled "Input in here..." enter the following:

res://ztxje.dll/index.html

Then press the OK button. The program will start to delete the various elements of this malware.

When it completed move on to step 7.

Step 7:

Restore files deleted by this malware.
  • Download the Hoster from here. Press "Restore Original Hosts" and press "OK". Exit Program. This will restore the original deleted Hosts file.
  • If you have Spybot S&D installed you will also need to replace one file. Go here: Merijn's Files (sdhelper) and download SDHelper.dll. Copy the file to the folder containing you Spybot S&D program (normally C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy). Then click Start > Run > regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\SDHelper.dll" and press the OK button
  • If you are using Windows 95, 98, or ME it is possible that the malware deleted your control.exe. Please check for the existence of this file by going to to Merijn Files control.exe and examine where the file should be for your operating system. If the file is missing then download the appropriate file and place it in the proper place according to this information.

I followed all of your directions with the exception of step 2 because my computer wouldn't allow me to delete those files and step 5 because those files did not exist on my computer.
Once I finished everything, it changed my home page to google. But when I reset it to yahoo, closed the browser, and then opened it again. It went back to the 'homesearch' start-up page. It's a different URL than I had before though.
This is what my new HiJack This! log looks like:

Yes and I followed all of those directions also, except for deleting the path of the file listed in the Path to executable field. It wouldn't allow me to delete that.

Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of these. Then click the Fix button

When you do these steps, please make sure intenret explorer is not running. Also please let me know if any of the steps can not be done for any reason. Especially step 1 or 5

Step 2:

Skip step

Step 3:
I now need you to delete the following files:

C:\WINDOWS\ergwl.dll
The file from the services above.
C:\WINDOWS\ergwl.dll

Also delete any files that have the same name as these files but end with a dll. You should see them right next to each other.

If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. if it is uncheck it and try again.

Step 4:
Then run hijackthis and fix these entries:
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\ergwl.dll/sp.html#37049
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = res://ergwl.dll/index.html#37049
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = res://ergwl.dll/index.html#37049
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = res://C:\WINDOWS\ergwl.dll/sp.html#37049
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\ergwl.dll/sp.html#37049
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = res://ergwl.dll/index.html#37049
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {44E12371-18A5-CADE-1043-D0FDEEBCF1CB} - C:\WINDOWS\ergwl.dll

In the field labeled "Input in here..." enter the following:

res://ergwl.dll/index.html
