Gmail is a mail host like Yahoo mail or Hotmail from microsoft. Its just the best one the world has to offer to date. If you have a hotmail or yahoo mail account then why not upgrade to Gmail? It offers so much more space and can work like a regular email because it has POP access. POP lets you download your emails from GMAIL to your computer.

Hope this helps!
