Hello, I was on a MySpace site (using Firefox) when I got infected with the first virus, W32.trats!inf. Symantec put it in quarantine and then started acting screwy. Now everytime I access Symantec, another window pops up and it tries to install itself and then error 2718 finally comes up. Symantec seems to be running okay except for the constant stream of errors 2718.

Symantec and ZoneAlarm are the only two programs that I have running on start-up.

I did some online research and discovered that W32.trats "infects executable files located in the startup folder to run itself when windows starts." So I thought I would outsmart it and disable it from start-up by unchecking it through start>run>msconfig. Boy was that a mistake. Then ZoneAlarm started acting funny and Symantec accused it of being a virus. So I went back in a re-enabled "vtutu.exe" in startup, so you will probably see that in my log.

Here are the following anti-virus programs that I've run.
Symantec
CCleaner
Ad-Aware
Spy-Bot S&D
Housecall
AVG Anti-Spyware
TrojanHunter
Stinger

I have ZoneAlarm firewall running and Symantec.

Only Symantec and TrojanHunter found vtutu.exe. They were both able to quarantine it but neither has been able to get rid of it completely.

Note I also disabled the system restore utility, per Stinger's instructions.

Also, the one thing that I'm unable to do is get the latest patches from Microsoft Windows because I don't have a key to Microsoft (I don't have a legit copy of XP running on my computer)

And now vtutu.exe is downloading other viruses on my computer (which I know is the point really). I just got a notice for "Downloader" onto my computer. And over the past couple of days I've gotten Trojan.adclicker and Trojan.vundo. But vtutu.exe is the one that won't go away.

Here's my HJT log run after I ran all the scans listed above.

Your version of Sun Java is out of date.
Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.
Please follow these steps to remove older versions of Sun Java, and then update.
1. Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE)
2. Scroll down to where it says 'Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 update 3'.
3. Click the "Download" button to the right.
4. Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
5. The page will refresh.
6. Click on the link to download 'Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language' and save to your desktop.
7. Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
8. Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
9. Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
10. Click the Change/Remove button.
11. Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java version.
12. Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
13. Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u3-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.

If you have previously downloaded ComboFix,please delete that version now.
Warning
You should NOT use Combofix unless you have been instructed to do so by a Malware Removal Expert.
It is intended by its creator to be used under the guidance and supervision of an expert, not for private use.
Using this tool incorrectly could render your system/pc inoperable.

Now download Combofix by sUBs and save to your desktop:
Note
It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop

Close any open browsers.
Double click on combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When it's finished it will produce a log.
Post the entire contents of C:\ComboFix.txt into your next reply.
Note
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running.
That may cause the program to freeze/hang.

Do NOT post the ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt unless I ask.
Note
In case your Antivirus or any other realtime scanner is displaying an alert after you downloaded Combofix or while you use Combofix, please disable your scanner and redownload Combofix again.
Some scanners may see some combofix related components as suspicious and block or delete them while there's nothing wrong with them.

Download RenV.exe to your desktop, double click to run it:
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/Beta/RenV.exe
When its finished it will produce a Log.
Please post the contents of that Log into your next reply.

Also post a new Hijackthis log please.

Refering to the picture above, drag Log.txt into RenV.exe
When finished, it shall produce a new log for you.
Post that log in your next reply.

Run this online virus/spyware scan using Internet Explorer:
Kaspersky WebScanner
Next click Kaspersky Online Scanner
You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
Now click on Scan Settings
In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
Standard
Scan Options:
Scan Archives
Scan Mail Bases
Click OK
Now under select a target to scan:
Select My Computer
This will start the program and scan your system.
The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
Now click on the Save as Text button:
Save the file to your desktop.
Copy and paste the contents of that file into your next reply.

If the above link doesn't work, try this:
http://www.kaspersky.com/kos/english/kavwebscan.html

Also post a new Hijackthis log.

I still had a couple of questions for you:

I'm still getting the Internal Error 2718 for Symantec (which has happened everytime I open it since I got infected with the virus)

I've attached a screen shot (2718.jpg)

Also there are a couple of things in my Symantec quarantine, should I just delete them?

I've attached a screen shot of those as well (symantec quar.jpg)

Download Combofix by sUBs again and save to your desktop:

I also got the following application error when I first ran ComboFix. I've attached a screen shot. (app error.jpg)

I thought that I disabled Symantec by going to File>System Realtime Protection> and unchecking the box that says "Enable file system realtime protection" but when I just opened Symantec again, that box was checked. So how do I disable Symantec?

If you have the installation disk, try uninstalling/reinstalling Norton AntiVirus.

If there is no uninstaller available in Add\Remove Programs then you will need to download and run the Norton Removal Tool:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgen...005033108162039
*Please Note*
The Norton Removal Tool will remove all Norton/Symantec products from your pc.

I don't have the original disc for Symantec (my friend built this computer for me and installed a bunch of programs for me onto it) so I'd rather not uninstall it. Unless you recommend uninstalling it.

I just got a pop-up on Firefox and I never get a pop-up when I use Firefox. And symantec is still having that 2718 error. But other than that it seems like it is running fine.
