Hello all
I posted this a few days ago,but before I did all the scans that you ask for, for this I'm sorry.
I scanned with ad-aware 2007 until nothing bad came up with a re-boot in between.
I did the same with spybot.
I then scannned with bit defender and had everything deleted.
I then scanned with panda and was told this:
Potentially unwanted tool:Application/PCDetective.A Not disinfected C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\DAO\PCD\SVCHOST.EXE
Virus:Generic Malware Disinfected C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\DAO\PCD\SVCHOSTE.EXE

I then scannes with trend micro and was told this:
adware_bestoffers 1X
spyware_trak_msnspymonitor 364X
spyware_trak_acespy 6X
http cookies 39X
During the clean up phase the process just hangs (2 hours this time) with no progress at all. I have included a hjt log
Thanks for all the time

Welcome to the BleepingComputer HijackThis Logs and Analysis forum i82much
My name is Richie and i'll be helping you to fix your problems.

Your version of Sun Java is out of date.
Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.
Please follow these steps to remove older versions of Sun Java, and then update.
1. Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE)
2. Scroll down to where it says 'Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 update 3'.
3. Click the "Download" button to the right.
4. Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
5. The page will refresh.
6. Click on the link to download 'Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language' and save to your desktop.
7. Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
8. Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
9. Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
10. Click the Change/Remove button.
11. Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java version.
12. Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
13. Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u3-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.

If you have previously downloaded ComboFix,please delete that version now.
Warning
You should NOT use Combofix unless you have been instructed to do so by a Malware Removal Expert.
It is intended by its creator to be used under the guidance and supervision of an expert, not for private use.
Using this tool incorrectly could render your system/pc inoperable.

Now download Combofix and save to your desktop:
Note
It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop

Close any open browsers.
Double click on combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When it's finished it will produce a log.
Post the entire contents of C:\ComboFix.txt into your next reply.
Note
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running.
That may cause the program to freeze/hang.

Do NOT post the ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt unless I ask.
Note
In case your Antivirus or any other realtime scanner is displaying an alert after you downloaded Combofix or while you use Combofix, please disable your scanner and redownload Combofix again.
Some scanners may see some combofix related components as suspicious and block or delete them while there's nothing wrong with them.

Also post a new Hijackthis log please.

Run this online virus/spyware scan using Internet Explorer:

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
Now click on Scan Settings
In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
Standard
Scan Options:

Click OK
Now under select a target to scan:
Select My Computer
This will start the program and scan your system.
The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
Now click on the Save as Text button:

Hello Richie:
Thanks again for your time.
I am really concerned about this.
It all started when I logged unto the net 1 morning and some of my settings had been changed, all though no one had been on the computer.
The lastest problem was my bookmarks had been imported into my son's account, with no one being on the net.
I do all of my banking on line, and am really worried.
At 1 time I did a virus scan using Nortons trhu super anti-spyware (I think), and it told me I had 4 bad SVCHOST.EXE located in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft shared\DAO|PCD\SVCHOST, which was infected with Spyware: P C Detective.
I had used this software about Feb 2007 to keep track on my teenage son (which pid off big time), but uninstalled it aroud July when he moved out.
Should I just do a clean install, which will take a full day, or is there an easier way to rid this problem?
Thanks again for all your time.
You all are PRICELESS
Mel

This entry was Disinfected,so no problems there:
Virus:Generic Malware Disinfected C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\DAO\PCD\SVCHOSTE.EXE

If you're concern is for this entry,do the following:
Potentially unwanted tool:Application/PCDetective.A Not disinfected C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\DAO\PCD\SVCHOST.EXE

Please download OTMoveIt by OldTimer, save it to your desktop:
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/oldtimer/OTMoveIt2.exe
Please double-click OTMoveIt.exe to run it.
Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose 'Copy'):

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\DAO\PCD\SVCHOST.EXE

Return to OTMoveIt, right click on the "Paste List of Files/Folders to be moved" window and choose Paste.
Click the red Moveit! button Posted Image
Copy everything on the 'Results' window to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose 'Copy'), and paste it into your next reply.
Close OTMoveIt.
If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process.
If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

If you're still concerned, for peace of mind contact banking and credit card institutions and explain to them your concerns.
They'll more than likely advise you to change all/any passwords.

Hello Richie:
I did as you asked with the OTmoveit.
I got an error for both creating a log file and a restore point.
What did I do wrong, or anything else I can do?
I will chage all my passwords as soon as I get this problem fixed.
I'm afraid that the hacker will have acess to any new password I might have
Sorry to be such a pain. I really appreciate your time and effort.
Thanks Mel

First enable the viewing of hidden files and folders, reverse the process once you've done below:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/how-to-see-hidden-files-in-windows/
Find and delete if present:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\DAO\PCD\SVCHOST.EXE

Hello Richie:
I went to that location and found 2 C:............\DAO
! had a sub folder \pcd where I found the Svchost and deleted it This folder also had 52,139 files with the ext of "tpc". When I open 1 with notepad (it took awhile) it had characters rather than letters. The files were named by date.
The other folder had a sub folder \called CDO with a CDOEX.dll in it, and another sub folder \DAC with a DAO360.dll in it
I tried to delete it but was refused due to a running process. Should I be concerned about this?

On the good side of things, I have noticed that the number of port scans detected by spygate firewall have drop to 0 and other apps asking for acess has slowed significally.
Thanks again for all your time
Mel

Those files are legitimate Microsoft Corporation files,i suggest you leave them alone or you'll end up with problems.

This page contains information about cdoex.dll:

Windows Task Information - dao360.dll:

Your log is clean  ,please do the following:

Please double-click OTMoveIt.exe again to run it.
Click on the 'Cleanup' button Posted Image
When you do this a text file named cleanup.txt will be downloaded from the internet.
If you get a warning from your firewall or other security programs regarding OTMoveIt attempting to contact the internet you should allow it to do so.
When the 'Confirm' box appears click 'Yes'.
Restart your pc when prompted.

Click on Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore.
In the 'System Restore' window, click on the 'Create a Restore Point' button, then click 'Next'.
In the window that appears, enter a description\name for the Restore Point, then click on 'Create',wait, then click 'Close'.
The date and time will be created automatically.

Next click on Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Disk Cleanup.
The 'Select Drive' box will appear, click on Ok.
The 'Disk Cleanup for [C:]' box will appear, click on the 'More Options' tab.
At the bottom in the 'System Restore' window, click on the 'Clean up...' button.
A box will pop up 'Are you sure you want to delete all but the most recent restore point?',click on 'Yes'.
Click on 'Yes' at 'Are you sure you want to perform these actions?'.
Now wait until 'Disk Cleanup' finishes and the box disappears.
