Hello, I'm here because my daughter has caught a virus. Likely several of them, if I'm not mistaken. I've been trying to help, and so far have only made matters worse. Now I need help to save face. I've spent several hours going through the get acquainted routing, reading tutorials, etc., and am impressed with the HJT approach, but have yet to see a link to download anything. I found a link to download an old version in case the latest one fails, but still don't know how to get the 'good' one. I hate to start off being critical, and know it's likely my fault for missing something, but I feel there should be links on nearly every page that proclaim "Here's where to get it", and "Here's how to use it".

I'll next be adding to the Win98 board, even though there's a spy-ware specific board. I feel the help should be limited to Win98 systems users rather than general spy-ware problems. If this is wrong, don't be afraid to chastise me. I need help and will do whatever is necessary.

Hello Stan and welcome to Bleeping Computer.
Nice to have you with us.
You can save yourself and your daughter (and her PC)
some time if you move right on to getting HijackThis
program. The link and instructions are in my signature
below. It is 100% safe and free and it's vital in detecting
and removing spyware, adware, viruses, and other
threats. No computer should be without it. It's THE best
thing available online for free, in my opinion.
Good luck to you both and be sure to post that HijackThis
log in the HijackThis Logs and Analysis forum.

Thanks, Texas Angel, for the quick, warm welcome. I've already posted the problem in Win98. Should I copy it and get it in the one you recommend? I also have your program downloaded, but am unsure what to do with it.

I know this is the forum for intro's, but am I wrong in trying to get directions here? It's a problem for me, and up front it said don't post problems here!!!

If the problem is a problem and your problem involves where to post the problem
it does become a bit of a problem determining where to post that problem doesn't it?

hmmmm, that's a problem.

It's okay to ask for help and mention your problem here. The main thing we ask is that you take the HJT log to the appropriate forum. Our team of experts will only see your log if it is there which will speed up response time. :flowers:
Please refer to the link in my signature for instructions on how to make a log and other informative news. It explains it all much better than I could.
Also, if a Moderator, like myself, sees a HJT log in the wrong place, we will just kindly move it so that it gets the attention it needs. We're all human and make mistakes. Additionally, please allow a little time for one of our experts to view the log and post their advice. We have a wonderful team that is gracious enough to volunteer their time and with so much garbage out there that infects our systems, we get a lot of logs. But I can assure you, no team is better than ours and they'll get you cleaned up faster than anyone. :inlove:
We're modest, but honest. :trumpet:
Again, welcome aboard and we look forward to helping you in every way you need us.
