Hi guys,

I desperately need help as I've been trying to install my HP F300 series software for quite some time now. Unfotunately, the installation only gets to the Checking Hardware part and then is very slow at that (5.4 KBps). After quite some time, a pop-up error telling me that "Another installation is already in progress. Complete that installation before proceeding with this install" appears. Of course, I hit 'Cancel' since I've already tried 'Retry' button and the error will still appear.

The thing is, this only happened after I updated my XP Home to SP2. I've never had this problem prior to this.

I've tried rebooting and then try installing again, but still the same. I've even turned off Automatic Updates just so no update would be running on the background. I'm quite certain that there are no other install going on (at least as far as I know and as far as the task manager is concerned) especially since I've tried the installation right after I've rebooted. Checking 'Add/Remove Programs' indicates that there are no HP products/software installed. I've even tried unregistering/registering the msiexec. My Windows Installer is already at 3.1 as part of an update recently. I have Windows Cleanup Utility and unfortunately, when I run it, no HP-related products is in the list.

Sigh.

I haven't tried checking the registry to look for pending applications or whatnot since I haven't got a clue where to check in the first place.

I'd really appreciate any help that anyone can give.

After the upgrade, initially, the printer was attached thru USB. However, since I was experiencing problems installing it again, I removed the USB connection. It still is removed up to now.

What I should have said is most USB printers have the software installed first before even attaching the printer to the computer. Is this how it was done?

Yes, that's how it is done (as per hp installation manual) and that is precisely what I'm doing right now.

After the SP2 upgrade, the USB printer was still attached. When I first tried to install the software I started receiving the error. Now, when I realized that the printer was still attached, I removed it from the pc and did a restart. I tried again to install the software. However, I still was not able to get to the part where the installation tells me to connect the printer to the pc. The installation only remains at step 1 and would eventually result to error 1500.

Does the printer show up in the Device Manager? Start> right click on My computer> Manage> Device Manager.

If it does try uninstalling it and try again. Is the CD clean?

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.

Thanks for the reply guys.

However, I've fixed my problem by turning to Plan B.

Plan B was to install the printer first and just manually select the driver/reinstall driver thru device manager. I knew it would work but I was hoping that I could have installed the software instead so that I could also have the HP Photosmart application installed. After days of trying though, I realized that the Photosmart is not worth all the trouble. Am guessing that it is the HP Photosmart that's giving me a problem since it invokes MSI upon installation.

BTW, dc3, since my printer was un-installed it did not come up the device manager list. When I attached the USB again, it did show up as 'Other devices' though. The cd is clean as it is an original cd that came from the printer package. No scratches as well or any other damage to the cd since it is kept in a cd case and is barely used.
