Edit: The topic title may be a bit misleading now, although it's still in the general area of the problem. >.>;

Well, I've looked around, but I don't think there is another topic that covers my problem. If there is, just point me in the right direction.

Normally, when I plug my earphones in, the sound is supposed to come out through the earphones, and when I unplug them, it's supposed to come out of the laptop speaker, or however that works. Currently, though, the sound will come through the earphones if I have them plugged in, but when I unplug them, there is no sound. OR, the more annoying occasion, even if I have the earphones plugged in, the sound will come through the earphones but STILL come out of the laptop.

To fix that, I used to go into msconfig > Startup and uncheck the 'PRONoMgr' and 'atiptaxx' boxes, hit 'Apply', then recheck them, and hit 'Apply', then click 'Restart'. I believe it was an accidental unchecking of one of them that initially kicked off this problem. After a while, I discovered that simply restarting the computer would stop the extra sound.

I had this problem fixed once before, and I believe it was a matter of updating the sound drivers. The thing is I have NO idea which drivers to go find and install, again.

Please help. Thank you.
