Ok a cuppla questions from a novice!!

I'm running low on Hd space and need to double check on a cuppla things.
Win rar compresses files right? So therefore If i compress a movie, I reduce the space it takes up?
To do this do I just archive the file I want to?
I read the help toppics in the program itself but It doesn't really tell you what i want to know
cheers!

Correct. If you winrar installed just right click on a file or directory and then left click on the compress option.

Thanks for that,
But istill seem to be having probs
I right click on file I want to compress,
The options for compress are:
compress and email, after its compressed it automatically tries to email it. And the original folder is the same size and not a rar file..
2nd option is:
Compress to 'file name .rar ' and email.. same thing happens.
So, I archived them instaed,
and just found them further down in mydocs..
So the original folder is still there, is it ok to just delete it or not?

Thanks

As long as the file has been backed up as a rar file than you can delete the originals. What i would do, is make a test directory, fill it with some files, rar it, and delete it. The uncompress the rar file and see if the directory is back. If it is then you know its working and can proceed with your legitimate data

Depends...some files are compressed already and dont get much benefit out of compressing compressed files. Text, word processing documents, and spreadsheets etc get the most benefit.
