i want to spend my Christmas money on upgrading my emachine T6542 computer. i want to get an AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000 processor and a 512mb video card. right know i have an AMD Athlon 64 3500 processor and a 256mb Nvidia GeForce 7300 GS video card. I might not have enough to get both so i was wondering what i should get first. i plan on playing alot of games that are coming out with my computer. help is apreciated. thx

You need to find out your motherboard model number. It might not even support that processor.

I would probably do the processor first then

I suggest getting a graphics card instead if you want to play games. How much money do you want to spend? ATI has the 3850's which are pretty nice for only 170-180$. The 8800GT is your best bet if you want to spend 300$ for a nice graphics card though. A lot of the cheaper cards are getting old now though. You could get an ATI 1950GT/Pro for 110$-150$ Or a Nvidia 7900GS which are kind of pricey.

Also, what is the Wattage of your power supply and how many amps (represented as a) on the +12 Volt rail(s)? It should say this on your power supply if your unsure.
