Hello, This if my first post.

I want to start a Gmail account BUT only if I can have all email messages on my hard drive and NOT on the Gmail server. I want to be able to edit and use (except 'send') these emails without being online.

Welcome to BC!
Happily, Gmail supports POP E-mail, so all you need is a client such as Thunderbird or Outlook Express on your hard drive to do all the things you want. Gmail provides detailed instructions for setting up an account for either. If you still have questions or problems, don't hesitate to post them in the Web Browsing Forum.
