Right click on the Desktop, choose Properties, Desktop tab and click on "Customize Desktop". Internet Explorer, My Computer, My Documents and My Network Places can be added or removed here.

If all of your desktop icons are missing, right click on the Desktop, select Arrange Icons By, then select Show Desktop Icons.

Let us know if you have further questions.

I keep forgetting Win98 doesn't have System Restore. Sorry all.

Try using your System Restore.

There's no System Restore in 98. I usually use something like Norton's Win Doctor for a problem like this.

This problem could possibly be repaired using Tweak UI. Here's A Link to information about Tweak UI. And here's A Link to Microsoft's Tweak UI download site. If this won't work, chances are your system's been corrupted. You might run Scandisk and choose the surface scan, just to make sure the disk isn't failing.
