So I just got home for the holidays and my mom who isnt very computer savvy said that firefox was "asking for updates every single day" and she got fed up with it and "did something" that led to firefox not being able to connect to the internet. IE works fine.

I have no idea whether she was refusing updates and saying "remind me tomorrow" or whether it wasnt every day and it was just too often, but I have no idea what she "clicked" that made this happen. I just uninstalled and reinstalled firefox and it didnt fix the issue. Any ideas?

With the Firefox browser opened, click on Tools>Options and click on the Advanced tab. Click on the Network tab and then Settings. Make sure "Direct connection to internet" is selected

Having grandkids is God's way of giving you a 2nd chance because you were too busy working your butt off the 1st time around

I forgot about that. On my wife's computer, everytime Zone Alarm updates I have to reset her security settings so she can get online

I checked the firefox settings, and direct connection is enabled.

Checked the firewall and it was turned off, so I turned it back on -.-
