Hi xstickyyriceex,

Welcome to BleepingComputer Forums and thanks again for your patience.

Thanks for helping.

You're very welcome.

1. Are you using an antivirus and a firewall? I see nothing in your log that would indicate that you have. I urge you to install one of each since it's your first defense against malware.

> Firewall: there are several good but for free programmes available like:

Comodo Firewall Pro
Vista Firewall Control 1.2
PC Tools Firewall Plus

For a tutorial on Firewalls click: Understanding and Using Firewalls!

> AntiVirus: Several good ones and for free like AVG and AntiVir Personal Edition and Avast!

2. You're using an outdated version of Java (latest one is Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u3). Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please update and remove the older versions. Do the following:
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on the Software icon > add/remove programs.
  • Search in the list for all previous installed versions of Java. (J2SE Runtime Environment.... )

It should have next icon next to it: Posted Image
    Select it and click Remove.
  • Then Download and install the newest version from here:

    Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u3
3. We need to disable your Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make. You may enable it again once you're clean; I will let you know.

> SuperAntispyware:

Right-click on the shortcut from the
system tray, choose View Control Center (preferences/options), on the General and Startup tab, uncheck, Start SUPERAntispyware when Windows starts, click Close to exit.

> Windows Defender:

Open Windows Defender.
Click on Tools, General Settings.
Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.

4. Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without users approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". This will change from what we know in 2006 read this article: http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3561546
Additional info: http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_137262.htm
I suggest you remove the program now. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present.

* Viewpoint
* Viewpoint Manager
* Viewpoint Media Player
* Viewpoint Toolbar

5. Please reboot!

6. If you decided to remove Viewpoint Manager go to Start > Run and type: "services.msc" (without the quotes) and click OK
Scroll down in that list until you find the service Viewpoint Manager Service
Doubleclick on it. In the window that will appear, click on "Stop" (if not greyed out) and change the Startup Type to disabled.
Click apply and OK and close all open windows.

7. Run HijackThis, click Scan and checkmark the following entries:

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch =
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateReg] "C:\Windows\system32\jureg.exe"
O23 - Service: Viewpoint Manager Service - Viewpoint Corporation - C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Common\ViewpointService.exe
<<If you decided to remove Viewpoint Manager

Close all browsers and windows, except for HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button; close HijackThis!

8. If you decided to remove Viewpoint Manager:

Using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "Explore"), please delete the following folder in bold if it still exists:

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint

9. Download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox browserClick Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browserClick Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.

10. Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.
  • Close all applications and windows.
  • Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts. If your anti-virus or firewall complains, please allow this script to run as it is not malicious.
  • When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt <-this one will be minimized
  • Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt and the extra.txt in your next reply. If you have any problems with the logs, both can be found in C:\Deckard\System Scanner.
Please reboot and post DSS main/extra logs!

Hi xstickyyriceex,

To start with: is this a corporate computer?

Okay we have some work to do, so let's get on with it.

1. Your logs show that you've Windows Internal Firewall enabled. I suggest you install a decent 3rd party firewall which will also block "outgoing" attempts to access the net. The Windows version only blocks "incoming". Have a look here for some good but for free options (download a firewall, disable Windows Internal Firewall, install the firewall!!):

Comodo Firewall Pro
Vista Firewall Control 1.2
PC Tools Firewall Plus

For a tutorial on Firewalls click: Understanding and Using Firewalls!

2. You have some applications running which may cause problems for you:

> LimeWire 4.14.10 may be a legitimate version but take a look at these articles:

ID THIEVES' NEW HANGOUT: FILE-SHARING SOFTWARE and
Risks of File-Sharing Technology

and be warned. It's up to you of course but if you want to get rid of it follow the instructions in the last part of this step.

> WeatherBug Gadget is related to WeatherBug which used to come with spyware. Whilst the latest version is spyware free, it is an advertisment-supported program which many users find annoying. There is a very good ad-free alternative: Weather Pulse!

Since I don't see any more traces of WeatherBug I expect this is a leftover, which you can get rid of following the instructions in the last part of this step.

> Megaupload Toolbar is considered an optional fix. Again it's up to you.

If you want to remove one or more of the above mentioned applications: click on Start, Settings, Control Panel and double-click on Add or Remove Programs. From within Add or Remove Programs uninstall:

LimeWire 4.14.10
WeatherBug Gadget
Mega Manager
Megaupload Toolbar

3. We need to disable your Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make. You may enable it again once you're clean; I will let you know.

> Teatimer:

> Run Spybot S&D, go to the Mode menu and select Advanced Mode;
> On the left hand side choose Tools > Resident;
> Uncheck Resident Teatimer and click Ok (close Spybot).

> Windows Defender:

Open Windows Defender.
Click on Tools, General Settings.
Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.

4. Underneath you see a fixs.reg; right-click it to download it to your desktop. Next doubleclick the file to run it.

Attached File  fixx.reg   484bytes   39 downloads

5. It's probably best to safe/print those instructions for use in safe mode, since you will not have access to this site at that time.

1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
5) Select your normal user account.

6. Run HijackThis, click Scan and checkmark the following entries:

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch =
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)

If you decide to remove Megaupload Toolbar, checkmark these entries as well:

O2 - BHO: Megaupload Toolbar - {4E7BD74F-2B8D-469E-CCB0-B130EEDBE97C} - C:\PROGRA~1\MEGAUP~1\MEGAUP~1.DLL

O3 - Toolbar: Megaupload Toolbar - {4E7BD74F-2B8D-469E-CCB0-B130EEDBE97C} - C:\PROGRA~1\MEGAUP~1\MEGAUP~1.DLL

Close all browsers and windows, except for HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button; close HijackThis!

7. You still have ATF on your computer so run it again.
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.

8. Using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "Explore"), please delete the following folder in bold if it still exists:

C:\Program Files\LimeWire << If you deceided to remove it!!
C:\Program Files\Megaupload << If you deceided to remove it!!
C:\Program Files\MegauploadToolbar << If you deceided to remove it!!

.......... and file in bold if it still exists:

C:\Windows\xmljacodec.dll

Let me know if you had problems with this step.

9. Please reboot to go back into normal mode.

10. Run F-Secure Beta Version
(You need to use InternetExplorer or enable IEView in Firefox)

* Follow the Instructions for installation.
* Accept the License Agreement.
* Once the ActiveX installs,Click Full System Scan
* Once the download completes, the scan will begin automatically.
* The scan will take some time to finish,so please be patient.
* When the scan completes, click the Automatic cleaning (recommended) button.
* Click the Show Report button and Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.

Please post the F-Secure report along with a fresh HijackTis log and let me know how things are running now.

Hi xstickyyriceex,

You did go through all the steps as instructed, right??

Unfortunately you didn't answer two questions I had:

a. is this a corporate computer?
b. no problem deleting the file in step 8?

Looks like we've to give this another try!!

1. We need to disable your Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make. You may enable it again once you're clean; I will let you know.

> Teatimer:

> Run Spybot S&D, go to the Mode menu and select Advanced Mode;
> On the left hand side choose Tools > Resident;

2. Download SmitfraudFix

Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/proc...processutil.htm

3. Run HijackThis, click Scan and checkmark the following entries:

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {376892AE-1825-4E5F-9F85-23F9640051CC} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
O6 - HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present
O6 - HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present

Close all browsers and windows, except for HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button; close HijackThis!

Please reboot, post Smitfraud report = C:\rapport.txt, along with a fresh HijackThis log for review, answer my questions and let me know how things are runing now.
