I've run the anti-spyware and anti-virus programs, etc. many, many times. I keep finding multiple incidences of:

As I run the various scans, I choose to delete, quarantine or heal the files that have the above - but when I run the next program, they have returned.

Assistance would be gratefully appreciated. Respectfully, DDP

Welcome to the BleepingComputer HijackThis Logs and Analysis forum ddp
My name is Richie and i'll be helping you to fix your problems.

You have BitDefender10 and AVG7 installed.
Its definitely not a good idea to have more than one antivirus program installed on your computer.
Each program may interpret the actions of the other as viral, therefore giving you false virus warnings about virus-related activities.
It could also lead to system slowdowns and other problems within the operating system, due to the two conflicting with each other.
You should uninstall one of them now, then restart your pc.

Your version of Sun Java is out of date.
Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.
Please follow these steps to remove older versions of Sun Java, and then update.
1. Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE)
2. Scroll down to where it says 'Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 update 3'.
3. Click the "Download" button to the right.
4. Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
5. The page will refresh.
6. Click on the link to download 'Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language' and save to your desktop.
7. Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
8. Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
9. Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
10. Click the Change/Remove button.
11. Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java version.
12. Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
13. Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u3-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.

Download SDFix.exe and save it to your desktop:
http://downloads.andymanchesta.com/RemovalTools/SDFix.exe

* Double click on SDFix on your desktop, and install the fix to C:\

Please then reboot your computer into Safe Mode by doing the following:

* Restart your computer
* After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
* Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
* Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
* Choose your usual account.

* In Safe Mode,go to and open the C:\SDFix folder, then double click on RunThis.bat to start the script.
* Type Y to begin the script.
* It will remove the Trojan Services then make some repairs to the registry and prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
* Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
* Your system will take longer that normal to restart as the fixtool will be running and removing files.
* When the desktop loads the Fixtool will complete the removal and display Finished, then press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
* Finally open the SDFix folder on your desktop and copy and paste the contents of the results file Report.txt into your next reply.

If you have previously downloaded ComboFix,please delete that version now.
Warning
You should NOT use Combofix unless you have been instructed to do so by a Malware Removal Expert.
It is intended by its creator to be used under the guidance and supervision of an expert, not for private use.
Using this tool incorrectly could render your system/pc inoperable.

Now download Combofix and save to your desktop:
Note
It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop

Close any open browsers.
Disconnect from the Internet.
Double click on combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When it's finished it will produce a log.
Post the entire contents of C:\ComboFix.txt into your next reply.
Note
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running.
That may cause the program to freeze/hang.

Do NOT post the ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt unless I ask.
Note
In case your Antivirus or any other realtime scanner is displaying an alert after you downloaded Combofix or while you use Combofix, please disable your scanner and redownload Combofix again.
Some scanners may see some combofix related components as suspicious and block or delete them while there's nothing wrong with them.

Also post a new Hijackthis log please.

Richie, Many thanks for your kind assistance.

As requested, I completed the following steps:

* BitDefender 10 has been removed from the system. AVG is now the only Antivirus. System restarted.
* Outdated Sun Java removed. 'Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 update 3' installed.
* SDFix downloaded and installed. System rebooted in Safe Mode. RunThis.bat started and run.

Here is the SD Fix Log:

Richie -

Good morning - hope you have a great day...

I'm just looking at the *mess* of a beast computer here. If you have a moment, I would be grateful if you would please direct me to where to post for assistance with the following issues as well.

* Microsoft updates error out, will not run - last properly installed was May of 2006

* After about 10 minutes from booting, AVG antivirus turns gray and ceases to function

* 'System Information' doesn't work - that was one of the first things I wanted to look at when they dropped this machine of to me and it provides the following notice:

Can't Collect Information

Cannot access the Windows Management Instrumentation software. Windows Management files may be moved or missing.

If you have any direction for further rsearching these issues, I would appreciate it as well.

Many, many thanks - DDP

Download ATF Cleaner by Atribune:
http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=1
Do not run it just yet.

Download\install 'SuperAntiSpyware Home Edition Free Version' from here:
http://www.superantispyware.com/downloadfi...ANTISPYWAREFREE

Launch SuperAntiSpyware and click on 'Check for updates'.
Once the updates have been installed, exit SuperAntiSpyware.
Do not run it just yet.

You might want to print/copy the following as you need to be in Safe Mode from here on.

Reboot your computer into SAFE MODE using the F8 method.
To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup (but before the Windows icon appears) press the F8 key repeatedly.
A menu will appear with several options.
Use the arrow keys on your keyboard to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".

Have Hijack This fix the following by placing a check in the appropriate boxes and selecting 'Fix checked'.
Make sure all browser and all Windows Explorer windows are closed before fixing:
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {89E82E11-25DA-4015-A7B4-B812547F76Db} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\bbjxlgbo.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {B8E1EE8A-BB2D-49CF-BDF4-355F104D1421} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\bbjxlgbo.dll (file missing)
O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - ?p=ZUxdm458YYUS
O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)

Exit Hijackthis.

Now double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click 'Select All' found at the bottom of the list.
Click the 'Empty Selected' button.

If you use Firefox browser, do this also:
Click Firefox at the top and choose 'Select All' from the list.
Click the 'Empty Selected' button.
NOTE:
If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click 'No' at the prompt.

If you use Opera browser,do this also:
Click Opera at the top and choose 'Select All' from the list.
Click the 'Empty Selected' button.
NOTE:
If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click 'No' at the prompt.
Click 'Exit' on the Main menu to close the program.

Now Start SuperAntiSpyware.
On the main screen click on 'Scan your computer'.
Check: 'Perform Complete Scan'.
Click 'Next' to start the scan.

Superantispyware will now scan your computer, when it's finished it will list all/any infections found.
Make sure everything found has a checkmark next to it,then press 'Next'.
Click on 'Finish' when you've done.

It's possible that the program will ask you to reboot in order to delete some files.

Obtain the SuperAntiSpyware log as follows:
Click on 'Preferences'.
Click on the 'Statistics/Logs' tab.
Under 'Scanner Logs' double click on 'SuperAntiSpyware Scan Log'.
It will then open in your default text editor, such as Notepad.
Copy and paste the contents of that report into your next reply.
Also post a new Hijackthis log,let me know how your pc is running now.

Additional progress is as follows:

* Uninstalled and then reinstalled AVG Antivirus, now it seems to run fine without greying out every three minutes
* Microsoft updates will not run automatically, I started running them manually and have just about fallen asleep doing this - will continue after work tomorrow (I am able to authenticate windows and office, but this doesn't seem to help the process)

Your encouragement is very helpful; thank you again for all of your assistance. The machine is overall running better but I haven't really put it to much of a test - I'm afraid to browse for fear of security. Before it came to me, some supposed Apple expert had it for three months (why they sent it to him, i'll never know) - all he did was open the msconfig and uncheck all of the startup items... Needless to say, I'm probably making more progress than he did!

I feel better now that the AVG is functioning properly. I am concerned that the updates won't run - with that lack of browser security the *junk* will be back very quickly. The family this machine will be returned to lacks any advance pc knowledge, they had no clue that their antivirus software hadn't been functioning for about 18 months. They are a family with two teenage girls and a Dad who sells daily on Ebay.

If you have any suggestions for specific tests I should run and/or information regarding next steps, I would be grateful. Every time I run Adaware or Spybot, I'm still picking up a few items (even with very minimal browsing).

You are very helpful and have made it very easy for me to follow your instructions - thanks for being such a pineapple lifesaver. Thank you! DDP

See if the following helps at all:
Download/install Dial-a-Fix from here:
http://djlizard.net/software/Dial-a-fix-v0.60.0.24.zip
Launch the program, place a check in the box:
'Fix Windows Update'.
Then click on 'GO'.
Make sure you then press:
'Flush SoftwareDistribution'.
Then restart your pc.

Download/unzip and double click on WUFix.bat Posted Image
You'll see a black screen flash,thats normal.
Restart your pc.

What exactly are Adaware and Spybot detecting please.

Hi Richie,

Once again, many thanks for your kinda assistance.

As requested, the following steps were taken:

* dialafix run and flushed, system restarted
* WUFix.bat run, system restarted

When I rebooted, the updates started running like crazy! They are now up to date - whee.

AVG is running great after the re-install. Is the WMI important? I've spent too much time without resolution working on it.

I've been running the computer around the block a bit and no viruses/trojans have surfaced. Adaware is only picking up low priority items at this time.

You've been fantastic - thank you for giving so much of your time. I did completely uninstall and reinstall internet explorer - it seems to be running much smoother now.

When this machine starts it takes what seems to me to be a long time - but it's been awhile since I ran a machine with 256 ram  I'm going to do some general stuff like defrag, but otherwise, I think things are running 99% better than a week ago.

I'll post an additional hijack this log for you - if you can think of anything else, I would appreciate it. Otherwise, thank you again for your help, you've been invaluable.

Hope that your holidays are fabulous - most respectfully, DDP
