Virus History:

Downloader.MisleadApp winshow[1].exe left alone
Downloader daSgo021099.exe quarantined
Downloader stany[1].exe. left alone
Downloader.MisleadApp install_en[1].exe left alone
Downloader.MisleadApp install_en.exe quarantined
Downloader stany[1].exe quarantined
Downloader vmain.class quarantined
Unknown virus name jvmusafe.jar-6ba32b13-69708c2c.zip quarantined

On 12/1 i detected:
Downloader stany[1].exe Left alone
Downloader.MisleadApp install_en.exe Left alone
Downloader daSgo021099.exe Left alone

On 12/5 i detected:
Downloader stany[1].exe Left alone
Downloader.MisleadApp install_en.exe Left alone
Downloader daSgo021099.exe Left alone
Trojan.Vundo ddayw.dll Left alone

Since my computer detected the Trojan.Vundo virus, i have received continuous notifications of its presence.

I have copied the HJT log below. Before posting, i tried to use the Symantec FixVundo file in safe mode after disabling norton but it could not find the file. I currently get notifications saying that the ddayw.dll file is infected. I also noticed a smludjhc.exe was installed on my computer and it has been trying to access the internet (it is blocked by Zone Alarm Currently).

I suspect this virus came from facebook, but any suggestions for its origin or how to determine it would be helpful.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Hello awburn,

Welcome to Bleeping Computer

1. Download this file - combofix.exe
2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply please, along with a new HijackThis log.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Thanks,
tea

I had been waiting for ComboFix to finish running. after it had gotten to the point of deleting several files, the computer restarted suddenly. Once i logged on to my user account, i started getting the following error message:

"explorer.exe - bad image"
"the application or dll C:\windows\system32\ssqonkj.dll is not a valid windows image. Please check against your installation diskette. "

There is also now a zipfile on my desktop called "catchme". In the folder where i had saved ComboFix.exe there is a ComboFix folder and another folder labeled "qoobox"

Now i've gotten a message indicating that the system has recovered from a serious error.

My clock is still set to military time from ComboFix...

here is the latest HJT log

Hello,

CatchMe is part of ComboFix, and so is Qoobox. Look in the ComboFix folder and see if it contains a report. If so, please post it for me.

Thanks,
tea

Thanks for that.....now we know it tried to run. Now I want you to go offline and disable Symantec and run ComboFix again. After it's all the way done, re enable Symantec, then post the report. This stuff is pretty nasty, so we'll have to be trickier than it is!

Thanks,
tea

Hello,

Why did you run Avenger??? Please don't do that....it's a very dangerous tool and you could have done a LOT of damage to your computer, and it wasn't necessary anyway. Also, you posted a HijackThis log instead of the ComboFix log. Please do post it.

Thank you,
tea

Hi,

 I didnt run it intentionally. I just double clicked ComboFix after disabling symantec. An avenger folder and log appeared after the computer restarted. Here is the text from the combofix txt file inside the combo fix folder. I dont see another log.

Here is the text from ComboFix

Okay....well it still ran, or those files wouldn't be in Qoobox. Let's do this :

Please delete ComboFix and its accompanying folder C:\Qoobox. Empty your Recycle bin and reboot your computer.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browserClick Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browserClick Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.

* Download Dr.Web CureIt to the desktop:
ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/drweb-cureit.exe
  • Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and Allow to run the express scan
  • This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
  • Once the short scan has finished, mark the drives that you want to scan.
  • Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
  • Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
  • Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
  • When the scan has finished, look if you can click next icon next to the files found: Posted Image
  • If so, click it and then click the next icon right below and select Move incurable as you'll see in next image:
    Posted Image
This will move it to the %userprofile%\DoctorWeb\quarantaine-folder if it can't be cured. (this in case if we need samples)
  • After selecting, in the Dr.Web CureIt menu on top, click file and choose save report list
  • Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
  • Close Dr.Web Cureit.
  • Reboot your computer!! Because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
  • After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web you saved previously, along with a new HijackThis log in your next reply.
Thanks,
tea
