Hi ~╬♣zmn♀k~

Firstly i have to point out that you are running multiple Anti-Virus programs.
I do not recommend that you have more than one anti virus product installed and running on your computer at a time. The reason for this is that if all these products have their automatic (Real-Time) protection switched on, then those products which do not encrypt the virus strings within them can cause other anti virus products to cause "false alarms". It can also lead to a clash as these products fight for access to files which are opened again this is the resident/automatic protection. In general terms, these programs may conflict and cause:
1) False Alarms: When the anti virus software tells you that your PC has a virus when it actually doesn't.
2) System Performance Problems: Your system may lock up due to both products attempting to access the same file at the same time.
Therefore please go to add/remove in the control panel and remove 2 of the following:
System Mechanic Professional 7 ~ includes the iolo AntiVirus
BitDefender 2008
Authentium Anti Virus

Another point worth thinking about:
Is the BitDefender 2008 just the Anti Virus or is it the 'Suite'?
If it's the 'Suite', it will include a 'Firewall...........System Mechanic Professional 7 includes a 'Firewall'
You should only be running one software firewall.
Please take this into account when you make your choice.

Step 1
Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.
Do Not do a scan yet.

Download HostsXpert.zip
Extract (unzip) HostsXpert.zip to a permanent folder on your hard drive such as C:\HostsXpert
Do Not run yet.

Step 2
Please disable Spybot S&Ds TeaTimer protection, because it is known to interfere with our fixes.
You can enable it again after you're clean.
Open Spybot and click on 'Mode' then click 'Advanced Mode'.
Click on 'Tools' in bottom left hand corner.
Click on the 'System Startup' icon.
Uncheck 'Teatimer' box and/or uncheck 'Resident'.
Click the 'Allow Change' box.
Then, check next to the computer clock to see if the icon for Spybot is still there.
If it is, right click it and choose 'exit Spybot-S&D Resident'.

If you decided to keep System Mechanic Professional 7, please disable the SystemGuardAlerter ... for the same reason.

Reboot the computer.

Step 3

Please read this before proceding with the next part of the fix.
Have you personally set or had 'Spybot' to set any restrictions on your system?

These next 2 lines relate to:
Restrictions present: You or an administrator has set a policy which disables changing IE start page for the current user.
Control Panel present: You or an administrator has set a policy which restricts access to the 'Internet options' from within the IE or in the control panel.

If the lines present are legitimatly set..... then leave these lines and go to 'Step 4'.
If you haven't set them... please procede with deleting them.

Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of these. Then close all other windows--you should only see HijackThis on your Desktop--and click the Fix Checked button.
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present

Reboot the computer to complete the process.

Step 4
Now:
  • Double-click HostsXpert.exe to run the program.
  • Click "Make Hosts Writable?" in the upper left corner (If available).
  • Click "Restore Microsoft's Hosts file" and then click "OK".
  • Click the X to exit the program.
  • Note: If you were using a custom Hosts file you will need to replace any of those entries yourself.
When finished:
Run Deckard's System Scanner (DSS)
1. Close all applications and windows.
2. Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
3. When the scan is complete, it will create two text files - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt <-this one will be minimized on your Taskbar.
4. Copy/paste both logs back here please (they will also be located at C:\Deckard\System Scanner).

Make sure you notice the extra.txt second log that will show as minimized on your Task Bar, "Maximize" that and be sure to paste those contents here as well.

In you next reply, please post
Both DSS logs.

Can you also let me know how things are running now.

Thx

Dude! Thank you SOOO much for the reply.... Ok, the Authentium antivirus wasn't in my add\remove program list, so i manually deleted it through regedit. (I also have NO recollection of installing it to begin with.) I then removed the BitDefender Internet Security 2008. Completed steps 1, 2, and 3 (and no, i didn't assign those restrictions) then rebooted. Completed step 4 and here are the logs:

Hi again ~╬♣zmn♀k~

The Dss report is showing that your Anti-Virus and Firewall are not enabled.
This got me thinking as you had said:

the Authentium antivirus wasn't in my add\remove program list, so i manually deleted it through regedit. (I also have NO recollection of installing it to begin with.)

I've now found this page:
http://techrepublic.com.com/5208-11184-0.h...ssageID=2380608
which seems to indicate that 'System Mechanic Professional 7' might now be using the 'Command' AV instead of the 'iolo' AV.
All very confusing as i'd have thought that it would have removed the 'iolo' AV references from the system.
Because of this, i'd recommend that you uninstall the System Mechanic Professional 7 and then do a fresh install and update of it.
We'll see what comes up in the next Hjt log.

Step 1
Please download FixWareout from one of these mirrors:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
If your firewall gives an alert, (because this tool will download an additional file from the internet), please don't let your firewall block it..... allow it instead.
Then you will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

Once the desktop loads please post the text that will open (report.txt).

Step 2
There's a file on your system that i'd like you to check for me.
Make sure that you can see hidden files.
  • Click Start.
  • Click My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View Tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known file types.
  • Click OK.
Now:
Please go to this site-->Jotti

When the jotti page has finished loading, click the Browse button and navigate to the following file and click Submit.

C:\WINDOWS\popcinfo.dat

Please post back the results of the scan in your next post.

If Jotti is busy, try the same at Virustotal: http://www.virustotal.com/

Step 3
The uninstall list is showing that you have old copies of Java Runtime environment installed.
Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. A malicious site could render Java content under older, vulnerable versions of Sun's software if the user has not removed them. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 3 and save it to your desktop.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u3...allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Read the License Agreement and then check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save the file to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove Programs and remove all older versions of Java.

Ok, now that all that is done. I uninstalled all java apps and installed the newest version (the one u pointed me to). Then i uninstalled the System Mechanic 7 Professional, and then reinstalled it after a system restart. To my surprise, there is now a whole new interface (almost like a new program altogether), but still using Iolo Antivirus and Firewall. Now, i'm not an expert at computers, so i don't know what all this means, but system mechanic finds 18 "security vulnerabilities" everytime i restart my computer. (I think the HJT log shows them) Also, there is a "automatic system update" that keeps saying i need to download a "cumalative security update for IE 7" ..... when i try to download it, something happens and the icon just disappears with no further instructions to install. I dunno, i think lil man really did it this time...lol Once again, i know words can't say it, but i am extremely appreciative of your time and help. Oh yea! One of the AntiSpyware programs (i can't remember if it was spybot or SuperAntiSpyware) found something called a zlob or something like that. i cleaned it, and restarted and ran the check again, and the same thing appeared again.

Hi ~╬♣zmn♀k~

Please download ComboFix
and save it to your 'Desktop'.

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

Now:
Close any open browsers.
Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
(you can re-enable them again after the scan has completed)

if you need any help with this.... there's a tutorial Here that will help.

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply.

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. This may cause it to stall

When ComboFix has completed:
Please run 'HostXpert' again..... as per previous instructions.

So in your next reply... please submit:
The ComboFix report
and a new Hjt log
Thx

Once again, thank you so much for your valuable time. I don't think people respect you guys enough for what you do. I see a LOT of 'help me' and not a lot of appreciation. So, from myself (and all the ones that don't have the courtesy) THANK YOU.

Hi ~╬♣zmn♀k~

Step 1
Close all open browsers:
Open Notepad - it must be Notepad, not Wordpad.
Copy the text below in the code box by highlighting all the text and pressing Ctrl+C
File::
C:\Boot.inf

Driver::
ADSFilter
BW2NDIS5
lredbooo
Go to the Notepad window and click Edit >> Paste
Then click File >> Save
Name the file "CFScript.txt" (including the quotes)
Save the file to your Desktop

The main ComboFix.exe program should be on your Desktop
Drag the file you just created... CFScript.txt and drop it on the main ComboFix.exe icon

Posted Image

Referring to the picture above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe

Now please wait for ComboFix to finish running

Please Note: Do not mouse click in the combofix window while it is running - this may cause your system to hang/crash

Step 2
Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to these lines.
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =

Then close all other windows, browers etc--you should only see HijackThis on your Desktop--and click the Fix Checked button.

Step 3
I see that you have SuperAntiSpyware installed.
Please update the definitions and then close the program.
Do Not do a scan yet.

Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :

* Restart your computer
* After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
* Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
* Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, (you will have to use the 'arrow' keys to navigate on this window) then press "Enter".
* Choose your usual account.

Scan with SuperAntiSpyware
Click the desktop icon.......when it starts, under "Scan for Harmful Software" click Scan your computer.
  • On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive.
  • On the right, under "Complete Scan", choose Perform Complete Scan.
  • Click "Next" to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer.
  • After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK".
  • Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "Next".
  • A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu.
  • If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes".
  • To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.
    • Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.
    • Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
    • If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log. A text file will open in your default text editor.
    • Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply.
  • Click Close to exit the program.
So in your next reply... please submit:
The New ComboFix report
The SAS scan report
and a new Hjt log
Thx

Is there any noticable improvement with your system now?

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for your comments (they really are appreciated) and to wish you and your family a very merry Christmas.

Hi ~╬♣zmn♀k~

Hope you and your family had a great Xmas.

The latest log looks good.
Well done.

Just a little cleaning up to do and then we're finished.

Please uninstall ComboFix by
Clicking on Start ...then run ... and type in combofix /u (don't forget there's is a gap between x and /) Then press the enter key. (or Ok)

Posted Image

This will uninstall:
ComboFix
DSS

and will also:
Reset System Restore
Re-hide System/Hidden files
Hides file extensions for known filetypes
.

could you direct me to some reliable
documentation about this 'vundo'?
Adware.Vundo Variant/Rel
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AYADD.BAK1

It appears to be a left over back up file that has been cleaned up by SAS.
Nothing to worry about.

Now that you are clean, hear's a few tips on helping to keep your computer in good health:
  • Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
  • From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
  • Click once on the Security tab
  • Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
  • Click once on the Custom Level button.
  • Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
  • Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
  • Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
  • Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
  • Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
  • Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
  • When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
  • If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
  • Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.

  • Use an AntiVirus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future.

See this link for a listing of some online & their stand-alone antivirus programs:

Virus, Spyware, and Malware Protection and Removal Resources

  • Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

  • Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over. I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:

    Understanding and Using Firewalls

  • Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

  • Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using Spybot - Search & Destroy to remove Spyware , Malware, and Hijackers

  • Install Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware. ou should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software in conjunction with Spybot.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using Ad-aware to remove Spyware, Malware, & Hijackers from Your Computer

  • Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

  • Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Glad I was able to help.
