My Windows VIsta Home Basic got infected with the IE Defender and I followed the removal instructions. However when I got to On-line Scanning with Panda ActiveScan, I got a reply that ActiveScan does not support Windows Vista. That means I may have some inactive pieces of the virus still around.
Is there another way I can scan and fix things? And what of the FixIED components I used to neutralise the virus; how do I remove those too?

These are both Vista compatible:

ESET Nod32 Online Scanner (Vista compatible but Internet Explorer must be Run as Administrator. To do this, right-click on the IE icon in the Start Menu and select "Run as administrator" from the context menu.)
When finished, it will create a log file in the C:\Program Files\Eset Online Scanner folder.

F-Secure Online Scanner. <- Be sure to follow the directions on the F-Secure page for proper Installation. (also checks for rootkits) (Vista compatible)
