For the last month I have been having problems connecting to secure sites, windows updates, and windows live messanger. AVG and AdAware found no problems. I formated reinstalled windows yesterday morning. When I went to update windows I got the error message 0x80072EE2. This is a fresh hadrive with no firewall installed, my cable modem connects right into my computerthere is no router or proxy. Windows messanger gives me a similar type of error 80048820 extended code 80048439. I have added microsoft updates to trusted sites, flushed the DNS cache, enabled SSL 2.0 and 3.0 and still have problems connecting to secure sites once I submit the password. they load but when the username/password is submitted the connection just freezes instead of loading the page. I have this problem in both IE7 and Firefox. I'm not sure how to proceed form here any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am using
Windows XP Home edition Service pack 2
nForce4 ethernet adapter
