I dunno,this happened LONG time ago,in September

I finally found the problem and how to fix it
expect one thing
after following a stupid advice,i install WMM2.0 which overwrite 2.1
and how the fix is useless
andtheonly way to do it is to *gulp* reinstall service pack 2 again

anyway on how to do it without reinstalling
or
if i have to,will it change my computer in anyway?

P.S:The last time I ask, some people thought i want to re-installing THE WHOLE THING,which it is wrong,I just want to re-install the service pack(there's a difference)

Did your XP come with SP2 preinstalled or did you install it? If it came already installed that might cause problems. It "shouldn't" change your computer

I went thru at least 4 or 5 web pages before I posted the link in your other thread

http://blogs.msdn.com/deanro/archive/2005/01/18/355050.aspx

I know it's complicated but you have a complicated problem

all in all I wasted about 15 minutes on it

what part of no don't you understand? Other links explain why microsoft refuses to use movie maker 2.1 as a seperate download, there are too many other parts of the OS that are linked to it that need updating also.

I can understand your pain and frustration, applying service pack 2 to a loaded computer that's got a lot of issues and programs already running in the background is like playing Russian Roulette, you might try it(SP2) in safe mode.

Instead of MS shipping a sp2 cd, they should supply a full xp cd that matches your numbers and liscense so you could do a repair install from booting to the cd. They already designed a system for people to integrate/slipstream service packs into
a custom OS install cd.(started with windows 2000) Let them charge you 20$, might cost them a dollar or 2 to do it.

The bottom line is...anything done on a computer is likely to end in a fiasco...which is why backup strategies are important.

All this posted "hand-wringing" doesn't change the facts regarding system operation.

IMO, really...this system needs a clean install...and updating of XP on a realistic scale.

Your frustration is understandable DarkNight, but multiple posts just cause confusion.
Different people working on different posts, don't know what the others have suggested, so the same suggestions keep getting reposted.
This just clutters up the board with unnecessary posts. And lastly is not acceptable forum behavior here at Bleeping Computer, as well as many other forums.
You could have 'bumped' your original thread after a day or two. Asking again if anyone might have an answer. Being rude to members trying to explain how the forum works is just as unacceptable as double posting.

This thread is closed and the discussion will continue in the original thread, here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/118812/regarding-on-reinstalling-sevice-pack-2/
