Hi all,

I have just been given a computer to fix but i am puzzled.
The keyboard is not responding. I have tried both a ps/2 and a usb keyboard.

Its a win 2000 pro machine

The machine boots up to the login screen but i can not log in as the keyboard doesnt respond.
I have tried to enter system bios and setup upon boot up but the keyboard doesnt even respond to hitting f2 or f8 during start up!

Any ideas whats going on?
Do you guys need any more info from me to help trouble shoot this?

cheers
Andy

Can you actually see the message during bootup that tells you which key to press to enter the BIOS setup, or does it flash by too fast? I ask because you mention F2 and F8, but it can also be F10 or DEL on some PCs. If those also don't do the trick, you might want to try locating the jumper on the motherboard to reset the BIOS.

BC's tutorial: How to start Windows in Safe Mode, might be helpful.

If you can get your hands on a PE disc... it may help with this issue. Sounds like you may be having issues with HID drivers... A bootable restore disc... Windows install disc... these usually contain and start copies of the drivers upon booting from the disc...

You might try that... if your boot sequence will start you from a CD/DVD instead of your HDD automatically.
If you truly live by the sword, it only stands to reason that someone has to die by it.

Have you tried a known good PS\2 keyboard? The current one may be broken. $5 at any used computer store for a used PS2 keyboard.
