When I press the "turn off computer" button where it will then allow me to choose 'stand by' and 'turn off'. It just freezes. Is this a corrupted windows file or link?It used to work.

I would boot into safe mode and run your security programs to see if you have infections. Safe has a minimum of applications running which makes it ideal for running these scan optimizing the chance of finding and dealing with infections.

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.

Thanks guys for the replies.

dc3, yeah i scanned before i came to this forum and found a low level worm spreading, 300 copies on my computer =O

and mme, I am gonna tryit thanks.

il let you know if it works

EDIT: nope..doesnt fix this. I tried making another user account and it doesnt work

I'll explain the problem more accurately.

The whole system doesnt freeze up, I can still move the mouse.

The only thing is that the screen doesn't darken and I can't turn it off.I attempted waiting for 30-45 seconds and nothing happened.

Until you get this resolved, make this into a shortcut and put into your Quick Launch. Just paste into the box that says "Type location..." in the new Shortcut Wizard.

%windir%\System32\shutdown.exe -s -t 0
