Might be a problem with xp as far as I remember.
Have a look for a registry fix.
I'll edit it in, if I find it.
Remember to be careful when you edit the registry, that you have complete confidence in what you are doing, or xp could become damaged.

This may not be an XP issue, it may be caused by malware: Are you running or do you have any installed P2P software, such as limewire, bearshare, ares, or bittorrent, etc?
The name says it all -- 59 and holding permanently

Whatever it is, it's is certainly an xp issue.

Here's something about it. It's not excactly what has happened to you. Still without beeing 100%, the fix might still be valid.
You might want to wait for approval by staff.

Anyways god luck.

Here it is -

Restore Missing CD or DVD Drive

Reports have filtered in that CD or DVD drives will suddenly cease to exist in XP systems. Most often this has been reported in conjunction with program installations and Windows upgrades, but it has also happened for no apparent reason. This tweak will restore the missing drives after a reboot.

[Start] [Run] [Regedit]
Registry Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class
Key Name: {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Value Data: [Delete All Value Data from UpperFilters and LowerFilters]
Note: Do not delete the Key or the Multi-String Values. Delete only the data values.
Exit Registry and Reboot

Okay I'm not really sure what's going on here.
Could you provide some more detail.
Try to explain excactly the problem.
Can you read from your drive.
Is there a light on the drive and so on and so forth.

Makes no sence, try again.
Could you get a friend to type for you.
Maybe you could find a help forum in your native tongue.

It seems that we are experiencing a communication problem. Are you saying that the drive reads CDs but will not burnt CDs? What are you trying to burn, data, music?

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.

ok, I'll try this again. When I check my hardware it says my CD ROM drive is working properly. When I'm in Windows Media Player and try to burn a CD it says connect a burner and start....... So what do I do? Do you understand ? I'm trying to burn music!

You are sure it's a burner not just a drive meant for reading form cd media? Don't remember you saying.

I would recommend that you use another program for burning. Usually Nero will accompany a burner when purchased. That is a fine program for burning music. Honest I'm not even sure Windows Medis Player burns. It might.
Nero express, make an audio cd burn for a standard music cd burn.
Best in any case to use the software for burning that came with the drive. This is very often true.

Is this some pre-build system, did you have somebody fit the drive? I'm just wondering if it is properly set up.

When you check your hardware, do you look in device manager -
Right-click my computer on the desktop -> properties -> hardware, click device manager
Dobbelt-click where it says dvd/cd-rom drives and see if there are any yellow exclamation marks beside the devices in that section. Hopefully the drive is listed there.
A generel troubleshooting tip, is to right click a device in there and select uninstall. Upon a system reboot the device is reinstalled and problems with a driver (i.e.) should have been sorted.

This is to get you started. Respond to my questions if appropriate and see if will get you somewhere.

Good luck.
