My Sony SDM-M51 15 inch LCD flat screen monitor. It has a headphone jack on the side, and since my speakers aren't working, how can I get sound to come out of the monitor from the headphones? Does it have its own sound devices? I've connected the headphones, turned up the volume on the monitor settings, turn up all the volumes to max power, and no sound comes out. I don't want to connect headphones to my tower because 1. The tower is far away and my headphones barely reach, and 2. My tower's sound card is atrocious and it produces low quality sound. I want to connect headphones to the monitor instead, but does it use the same sound devices anyway? Does it have to connect to the tower? Do I need to download drivers?

Also, the monitor has built-in speakers if that helps. I'd prefer to use them rather than my low-quality speakers or headphones.

You will need to run a cable from the audio jack on your computer. It uses the audio from your computer. Speakers in the monitor are just as cheesy as cheap desktop speakers. If you want decent sound, your best bet would be decent speakers. I have both Creative and Logitech. Probably paid $50 / pair and ZZTopp will make the walls shake. I have onboard audio, nothing special

Having grandkids is God's way of giving you a 2nd chance because you were too busy working your butt off the 1st time around

I agree. Get a new set of speakers.

I have a SONY 17" LCD monitor with its own speakers and they sound terrible.

You can get a nice set of speakers for $20 or so. If you can spend more, you have even more choices.

Good luck.
