i don't know how the infection happened but it makes two DOS screens appear at start up, one called sp2.exe and the other gfcxx.exe, i can't open windows media player and i have tried uninstalling and reinstalling it, and the search function doesn't exist anymore. i have tried to remove it using Bullgaurd, Spybot- search and destroy, NoAdware, and also restoring a registry backup from before the infection but nothing seems to work. can anyone please help me out?

here is the hijackthis log:

Hello and welcome to BC

I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news but unfortunately, you are infected with a variant of W32/Rbot with backdoor capabilities giving intruders complete control of your computer. I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to alert them to your situation.

Though the Trojans/worms have been identified and can be killed, because of their backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of Trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. In all honesty, if this were to be my computer, I would reformat and reinstall Windows XP.

Please read these for more information:

Danger: Remote Access Trojans
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/...o/virusrat.mspx

When should I re-format? How should I reinstall?
http://www.dslreports.com/faq/10063

How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud?

However, if you do not have the resources to reinstall your computer and would like me to attempt to clean it, I will be happy to do so but it is not fully guaranteed that your computer will be completely rid of malware regardless of what anyone can really do.

Please let me know.
