Hi,
Here is my HijackThis log. I've run AdAware, Spybot and now I'm here for help with HijackThis. Just when I think that I've found and deleted and immunized against the nasties, my browser problems return!

Any guidance is IMMENSELY appreciated. Here it is:

Delete c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts.

Then see if you can update the definitions on kapersky and then follow those steps in that tutorial again.

Hi!

I did not find the file: C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts in that location, but I did find the subfile in the C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc\hosts... so I deleted that. I updated definitions on KAV (no definitions to update) and ran the scan again. Am I fixed? Really, really fixed?

Meanwhile... I have a new dilemma: Now, when I minimize Outlook, the Outlook button disappears from the Task Bar. It is still running (I have the small Outlook icon in the processes tray, and I receive incoming email notification) but to maximize Outlook again, I have to re-launch. Any words of wisdom?

Thanks so much... I want to be really really really fixed!

T.

Print out these instructions and then close all windows including Internet Explorer.

Then I want you to fix some of those entries. Please do the following:

Please make sure that you can view all hidden files. Instructions on how to do this can be found here:

How to see hidden files in Windows

Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of these. Then click the Fix button:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {2A6CD7EC-2DAA-0422-BCF0-60604DFD11ED} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {2B02666C-B41D-E872-6801-6137BAA5263C} - (no file)

O18 - Filter: text/html - {950238FB-C706-4791-8674-4D429F85897E} - C:\WINNT\isrvs\mfiltis.dll

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode

Then delete these files or directories (Do not be concerned if they do not exist)

C:\WINNT\isrvs\

Reboot your computer to go back to normal mode and post a new log.

Delete your hosts file (do a search and delete any hosts file it finds). Then do not reboot, immediately update kapersky, and scan again following that tutorial

Hi there,

The only hosts files that I found after searching are these:
Hosts.sbs -- C:\ProgramFiles\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Includes
Imhosts.sam -- C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc

Shall I delete those? In the meantime, I will update and run KAV again.
Thanks.
T.

No need to delete those hosts files

Hi.
Okay, re-scanned with KAV. it didn't find any viruses or anything to quarantine. I've reviewed the report from Kapersky and I see um, nothing I can make out as threatening (heh, as skilled as I may be in that department). What shall I do next?

Thanks,
T.
